I change mine every 10k miles because its easy to remember when to do it. I use Mobil1 full synthetic. I think the label says its good for 12k but its easier to just do it every 10k.

The most important part of an oil change is the filter. As long as you use the correct weight oil you will be fine.

I only use Wix or Napa gold filters. Never use a fram piece of shite filter.

Oil needs changed, not burning off the moisture in the block.

Generic statements are foolish.

How Often Should Oil Be Changed?
If you replace vehicles every 3 or 4 years probably makes little difference how frequently you change it, the next owner will need to deal with the consequences. If you keep vehicles for a long time, as I do, best to follow the advice and recommendations in this article.

I would change it every six months. Forget mileage. You could likely go a year, but psychologically I could never do that. To go a year without servicing the car is a sin for me.

I drove hot shot for years and would change my fully synthetic oil every 30,000 miles.

I sold my truck with 430,000 miles on it.

I'd recommend every 10,000 since you don't drive that much...but every 3,000....NO!

Good enough for lawn mowers, pressure washer type things.

If you’re using full synthetic and changing your oil every 3000 miles, you’re flushing your money down the toilet.

Read your service manual it is where they hide all the secrets to oil changes for your car. Just don’t tell anyone else it is a secret.

Change oil and filter every 6,000 miles using full synthetic. I also add 1 ounce of seafoam per quart of oil to my crankcase about 300 miles before I change the oil. The seafoam is safe to use and it will reliquify oil deposits and build up in the engine, and allow it to be drained out with the old oil. Its safe and will clean your engine. If crankcase holds 6 qts, then add 6 ounces 300 miles before each oil change.

How much credence do ya'll give to the %percentage gauge on when to change oil?

I have a Honda and from what I read, it's pretty accurate on when the oil degrades enough to need changing. That's pretty much what I rely on and it seems to have me changing at about 6K regularly. I use synthetic blend and am at 108K miles.

What about a transmission fluid flush and change? I've never changed the trans fluid again but I really want to drive this car until the wheels fall off. Thinking about spending the $100 to do it.

The transmission flush will prolong the life of your transmission. Get the BG service if its offered near you. I've had mine done on my truck every 50K miles. Its time for a 3rd, so I need to get it scheduled.

I go by miles on the oil, and the color. If its black its time to change. I would recommend you use a high mileage full synthetic oil. The high mileage oil has conditioners that condition seals to prevent future leaks. The Supertech brand at Walmart is an awesome oil. The oil is produced by Warren Oil Company, Inc. which is one of America’s largest independent lubricant manufacturers. 5 Qts is $14.88. I buy a std OEM oil filter and 6 qts of Supertech oil, and change my own oil for $25. I change it every 6k miles.

I usually change my own also. Sometimes I have to pay depending on a few scenarios, but 80% of the time I do it and save the $.

BG Service? Does that stand for something obvious and I just don't see it?

BG is the machine and products used for the flush.

Type in baton rouge and select transmission service from drop down menu on the right. See list of shops offering the service.

Mine requires 10,000 mile or one year. But it holds 8 quarts and Mobile 1 is required.
