I bet the Penn state guy that died of it doesn't think it's rare

If he died of internal bleeding, that hardly counts.

None at all which is why the military cracked down on it. However you're in the military so you're supposed to be able to handle more than most and it might toughen you up. Terrible argument yes but these are 18 year old kids getting hazed by 20 year old kids for absolutely no reason other than they want to join their club. They're not going to war, they're not in a fricking fight club. They're literally in a group to drink and hangout together

Why do fraternities haze people?

Only shitty ones do.

I was never hazed. We never hazed my entire time in school. Neither did the other fraternities.

if they didn't force him, then they sure as heck probably didn't try to stop him either...but i digress, it's still early and we don't know much

Who cares if they didn't try to stop him??? Lets say you and I were out with our skateboards and I said I was going to try some crazy arse trick but fell and cracked my skull on the concrete. Are you responsible because I wasn't wearing a helmet and tried some stupid arse trick? No, you're not. Even if you dared me to do it, or said I was a pussy if I didn't do it, you're still not responsible.

Eventually Sigma Chi was kicked off, but they held out for as long as possible. Had a member die and they still didnt kick them off.
get your fact straight. While tragic, he committed suicide and it had nothing to do with Greek life.

He was also very popular, which is not what I've heard about this tragedy.

I asked my cousin who's in another frat house and told me he choked on his own throw up from drinking too much everclear. What a shame, prayers sent.

No they didn't

Hey retard, I didn't mean an actual medical coma but an extended period of being passed the frick out and completely unable to be woken.

IMO. Not going to lie. Rumors spread faster than the truth (especially collaborated ones) so I wouldn't take his word just because he is in the Greek System.

Ya, fraternities and sororities are killing members every weekend all over the country.

19 hazing related deaths since 2010. 2 this year already. It's not all that rare either.

If the internal bleeding was caused by falling down the basement stairs shitfaced drunk, would that count?

You grow closer with a group (pledge class) when you experience shitty situations together. Solidarity. Ive experienced this outside of pledgeship too with other groups. Most hazing is productive but some acts (forced alcohol consumption) are idiotic and not beneficial in any way shape or form.

I was in one of the big three frats at Auburn in the 80's and I never experienced hazing or forced drinking.

There is no tradition of crap like this.

It's tragic and easily avoidable if you kick out the idiots who start it.

Yep. The Parade Ground on Saturdays is a perfect example of this. Every weekend it's absolute insanity that didn't exist 3-5+ years ago.

Yeah, the video and stories I see of gameday are nothing like when I was there.

I love drinking and having fun, but if dropping the hammer on the Greeks saves some other kid's life I'm all for it.

If you came over to my house and hurt yourself on the rickety-arse ramp I built in the back yard after I encouraged you to try it, I would be. Especially if 20 of my friends, who also knew how dangerous it was, were there egging you on.
