lol, how'd we end up measuring dicks about alcohol intake back in the day?
These 18 year olds are so stupid with their binge drinking and thinking it is cool.

Hazing that results in a death can definitely fall under 1st degree murder in LA.

More than likely they are aiming high and plea down to what they actually want. I think their saving grace is they took him to the ER.

They will suspend all of Greek Life for a little while, then make them all attend alcohol and hazing awareness lectures, then set them free again.

F. King and the new queer arse IFC advisor are about to go in dry, though.

you think the alumni want to deal with this kind of shite? Different day and age my friend. You can't defend a death under these circumstances no matter how much you contribute or what chapter you belonged to. Greeks have been under scrutiny for the last 20+ years. Events like this only make a move to ban them easier and more acceptable.

Yeah, this brotherhood BS only goes so far. After you're out of school a few years, your Greek loyalty kind of falls by the wayside except for a few hazy memories of good times. You may technically be "brothers" or "sisters" with those current undergrads, but it doesn't mean much. Take it from someone who did some fundraising, the alums who contribute any money at all to their chapter or to Nationals are in the minority.

And, this can't be overstated: Ever parent who is a Greek alum is first and foremost a parent. If the perception is that eliminating or sharply restricting the Greek system will keep their kids safer, it's so long Greeks.

My chapter used to be well regarded at LSU but doesn't exist any more and there doesn't seem to be any movement toward bringing it back. Life goes on.

20 guys there watching this guy drink himself to death because he feels forced to drink, and not one stepped in to stop it?

How do you know he felt 'forced' to drink??? He may have wanted to see how fricked up he could get. That's what some of us do at that age. I never in my life felt forced to drink. I got hammered because I wanted to or because everyone else was doing it and I wanted to fit in, but either way I voluntarily made the decision to drink that much.

This actually used to be a lot more common than it is these days.

No way this kid drank himself to death without something else.

You are woefully uninformed. People like you are why this shite continues to happen. People can most certainly drink themselves to death "without something else". No funneling, no butt chugging, just repeated drinks and/or shots in a short time frame will do the trick.

Most guys puke and/or have vicious hangovers. A very small percentage die, but some DO die. Just from drinking alcohol.

if they didn't force him, then they sure as heck probably didn't try to stop him either...but i digress, it's still early and we don't know much.

That's pretty much what I'm saying and I'm getting downvoted to death. No pun intended.

Probably so, but you can't aim much higher than 1st degree murder, and this qualifies by the letter of the law.

Would show at least a little bit of concern and maybe throw out the negligence factor

As a parent of an 18 year old freshman at lsu that is in a fraternity, this was a scary topic when it was first posted earlier today. This is one of those areas where the next generation doesn't learn from the last. Very sad.

The quick arrests and the numbers of them, if they are to be believed, certainly indicates the DA thinks he's got plenty of probable cause and a decent shot at a conviction or two.

You don't arrest 20 people if you believe that what you're dealing with is a sad case of one misguided kid accidentally drinking himself to death.

His dorm roommates brought him to ER from what I've heard. He was in dorm room when he stopped breathing. Had been at fraternity house earlier.
