I have never seen so many cracked out homeless. They literally have tents and living quarters everywhere. One dude had a freakin dresser from Dillard’s under I-35.
Has Austin always had this issue?

As soon as a dummy Californian flies/drives into TX there's a special hwy specifically for them that leads to Austin.

Seattle, San Fran, LA etc also have this issue. Where I live in Chicago id guess would be way worse but winters are so damn brutal they can’t stick around.

I’m assuming you’ve never been to San Francisco or Los Angeles for that matter

I saw a group in N.O. under the overpass at Clio and Prytania this morning that had set up a whole nice looking leather sectional sofa in the little median area to enjoy their breakfast beers.

Austin is bad, but San Francisco is worse.

Not yet but it is trending that way.

Austin recently changed city ordinances to allow homeless to occupy space, similar to places in CA.
There also appears to also be debate over how the city will respond to issues like someone going to the bathroom in your yard. If the policeman doesn't see it happen, they won't do anything much less respond. Moreover, they now hand out citations rather than arrest people, so there's little deterrent.
People in Texas value functionality even if they're liberal. This issue even has Austin up in arms right now.

While SF is bad, id put it 3rd behind SJC and OAK just in the Bay area
San Jose and LA have some tent cities that you can only he impressed with.

First time in the big city is always magical.

Instead of complaining about it, you could offer them some help.

It's kinda like when you feed a stray.

The best help to give these people is to not give them anything

But what would Jesus do?

It’s more so due to the recent change in laws that allow them to camp out and be homeless so now the cops don’t just spend time shuffling them around from one place to the other.
Unfortunately this just leads to the homeless being more visible, and being more lax about it has more vagrants migrating in.
There’s already pushback happening since the law changed, but for now it’s tent city
