Austin is bad, but L.A. is the worst I've seen. They are all over.

The people of Austin in general are pissed about this and are calling for the city council and mayor's heads.

It makes the city, particularly the downtown areas where tourists tend to visit, seem dirty. I've heard that lots of downtown businesses and hotels aren't happy about the new law, and there is talk that Governor Abbot may get involved.

I've also heard that plans are underway to relocate the homeless center out of downtown and over to east Austin.

Dragworms were in Austin in the 80's. It's a popular place for partying people.

LA is as bad or worse. And I still had a fricking blast there this weekend. Got drunk and stoned and rode scooters all over downtown. Saw a mind blowing, 5 band set at the Regent. Had my heart broken at the mentally ill, and made the others stay out of my way. Big fricking deal. It was an awesome time all around.

Any major city in a decently mild climate is the same. You probably haven't been to any of the places being mentioned, and live in America's a-hole, Louisiana.

I will not comment on the attendant irony.

New Orleans is not any better and worse than most places, including LA or SF. I'd rather be in either of those, anytime, than any city in Louisiana except N.O. You have to take the good with the bad in big cities like that.

I wonder what percentage of these homeless are drug addicts, and what percent are mentally ill, or both? It’s got to be high and getting worse.

Went to Driskill Hotel around Christmas and the urban campers were quite aggressive in their solicitation of handouts.

Seattle, San Fran, LA etc also have this issue. Where I live in Chicago id guess would be way worse but winters are so damn brutal they can’t stick around.

It's what keeps Chicago from being murder capital and possibly transient paradise. shite gets 2 cold to be out on the streets.

Homeless people will always exist in cities. That’s just a fact of life. The problem is that many cities coddle them. They almost act like homelessness is a positive attribute. Stop giving them free shite. Give them the opportunity to better themselves or let them die.

I went to Austin last year for the first time and realized how bad it was. Was there for the WVU-Texas game and our hotel was pretty much between the campus and 6th St. It also happened to be right up the street from a homeless shelter/community center. We just kind of walked around and avoided it, but it was a very obvious problem.

Also some kids from Texas A&M were on 6th St that night yelling about killing animals and they had some big protest in the middle of 6th St... but thats a different topic

We need to ship all of our homeless to some remote island. Leave them there to fend for themselves.
Cleans up our cities. Alleviates guilt for liberals as they have a place to go.
