It’s funny how people can’t fathom that we don’t want to become Houston or Austin. I too enjoy the small town vibe of NOLA. It’s laid out like an actual city and not just a suburban sprawl like BR, but small enough that I run into someone I know almost every time I leave the house.

Towns where it takes 15 minutes to arrive at darn near any restaurant you can find, we don't have a Taco Cabana. Or live in a city that boasts 12 homicides a year. Or to be able to drive about 2 hours to the DFW Metroplex or OKC.

People don’t take shots at New Orleans for that reason. They take shots at the leadership and the crime. Nobody sits there and bitches about the raw authenticity of Nola that makes it unique. Austin & Houston also have raw authenticity. HTX just offers much more sprawl with authenticity sprinkled in there.

No, it’s not usually tourists and average joes getting murdered. I was just wondering about the crime stats. I’m sure they’re down from the 1990s, but I wonder how much they’ve really decreased if you look at the entire metro area as opposed to the city limits. Probably not a proper discussion for this thread though.

Houston and Austin’s authenticity have both been watered down by the massive growth thise cities have experienced. I would never want that to happen to NOLA. That seems had for some to understand.

I remember when Nola had over 400 murders in the 90s. It used to be far and away the most dangerous city in the country.

True but the area overall is seedier than it used to be. Tall Timbers especially. That area around the Schwegmanns isn’t too nice.

Where the murders occurred is what matters. In the 90s you were still relatively "safe" on places like Bourbon or Decatur. Not anymore. It's all fair game. That makes it "worse" now, even if the numbers are technically down.
