I’m convinced they purposely make their website slow as shite so you’ll just give up on trying to figure out what extra charge they added to your bill on any given month. It’s like trying to navigate tigerdroppings during an LSU football meltdown

Those scum bags are the reason I got rid of my land lines this week. We would get over 20 scam calls a day. With our high tech NSA, and MIT grads, I figured there had to be something that could be done. Nope. But it has been wonderfully quite this week.

Oh, the reason we got rid of our land lines was because it wasn't 2002 anymore.

The person who sold your dad the hotspot probably doesn't actually work for AT&T. He's an affiliate. They do this crap all of the time.

These ATT reps supposedly take time and care assisting older customers. They don’t rush through to a solution like most reps AND it should be an American based and native English speaker, too.

Contact AT&T's Disability and Aging Center: 800-772-3140,
Monday through Friday, 6 a.m.-6 p.m. PT, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT on Saturday.

I saw a report on telemarketers a long time ago. This included a CLASS on scamming. One of the key principles is to call old people, b/c they are often lonely since they're children have moved away and seldom call. Also old women are often widows. So they're more willing, even eager to talk with someone.

Another key: "Hello how are you today?"

The reason they begin like that
(instead of getting to the point) is to lengthen the call. Psychologically, the longer you stay on the line you more you are "invested" in the call. So the more likely you are to keep listening to their pitch

This x100
Spent a lot of time with my parents while I was home on medical leave - these scammers would call them all day long, a dozen times per day. I kept trying to tell my parents to quit talking to them, don't even answer the phone - but the hard heads won't listen. Last time I went to visit they kept answering and talking to them because they "want to outsmart" them. Thing is, and I kept trying to emphasize this to my parents, they're not trying to scam you on this call. They're not trying to scam you on the next call. They're building a file on you based on these little nuggets you slip out each time so they can make a call six months from now that sounds so convincing that you'll drop your guard and cough up those credit card numbers. Last time I was there they were calling from cloned phone numbers of different hospitals because one of my parents had let it slip that they didn't use a particular hospital network - so now the scammers were calling from cloned phone numbers of Ochsner, Slidell Memorial, Tulane, etc trying to tell them of outstanding balances they could pay over the phone.

So today I meet the technician at our farm house. And he's this cool older black guy with a white beard

Well thank God he had that little bit of white on him to make him cool. You had a close call.

Their 1gb fiber is the tits though. Had it for 5 years now and gone out maybe 1 time . Pay 70 bucks a month for service and has never gone up. Yeah their customer service does suck that i admit.

I do small business and home IT support, I deal with every ISP in the area. When my client has ATT I dread that I'm going to have to try to deal with them, the customer service is worse than bad, sometimes it is hostile, when you can get a human, I use the term loosely, on the phone.

The biggest issue is usually the plan, they have a majority of people on old plans with high prices and slow speed, if the customer never calls to ask for better, tough shite.

Cox used to have better service and better speeds, they do have fiber in most areas in BR, but service has drastically gone down in recent years. I can tell if I get an idiot on the phone, I just hang up and call back, I do that a lot.

Many areas around BR have access to REV, it is by far the best choice. Fast, reliable, and the customer service is in Gonzales, not India. They are very responsive and quick to fix.

At&t does suck.
I seperated myself from them years ago and I make sure that any company I engage with is not associated with them...

Did AT&T know the wire was cut by the water company at the time of the first call?

I take of my mom. She is 84. Do you have any idea how hard it is to convince someone that old to use modern technology and give up a land line? I let them do the work for me. I turned my ringer off and let her answer "mike" from India. Finally after 25 calls back to back, she said she had enough. She asked me in her little old lady talk if I could teach her how to text. No problem
older people are scared of my moden tech. She is getting the hang of it.

They must hate my 80 year old dad. He is the world champion at dragging out a phone call 20 minutes before someone hangs up on him. He cant actually hear a damn thing, but mumbles yes and ok to everything said, before at some point going off on some random tangent, and then claiming he never agreed to any of whatever it is the other person is saying and eventually gets hung up on when he mother fricks the caller for "lying". It is a master class in frustration if you happen to be the caller. Which I often am.

I used to work for them and I despise that company with every ounce of my being. I haven’t owned anything ATT since I quit that place in 2009.

Wait, what are the people on the phone? Those $15 customer service jobs at giant call centers are definitely not white collar
