At 6'3 and 125 pounds, you can't have a "dad bod"

I've never been much of a runner. I used to hate running. Now I run 2 miles in the morning and 2 miles in the afternoon before I workout. Haven't pushed myself to longer distances but that's coming.

Good running shoes help but your lower leg really just needs to strengthen. I run with Asics Kayano 20s.

When you start running you should be running at a pace where you can hold a conversation. Like with someone running next to you. You may be pushing your pace too hard.

Yeah, there's no way I'm holding a conversation with anyone after about a mile.

Then you are pressing, ease back.

Post stretching is part of your issue. Warm up first obviously, but stretch a lot afterward. No reason to not be able to touch your toes other than lack of trying.

Running sucks for awhile, I played soccer in HS so I got used to it then. But I still don't love it. You just have to find your rythm and as said change it up. I often times will pick a spot like the next mail box or 4 mailboxes or hill or whatever, and sprint, then recover for awhile. Then repeat. After awhile you forget you are running and then you are done.

I honestly don't feel like Im pressing it and can ease back. I have long strides and it's just a natural pace to jog at for me. If I slow down much more I'm essentially walking or shuffling and dragging my feet

A proper fitting shoe is vital. You're not a fatty at 6'1 185lbs so you're height weight proportionate. Sounds like a combination of bad form and ill fitting shoes.

I'm not much of a runner but they're the best running shoe I've ever owned.

Natural pace is what you should look for. Get comfortable there and expand.
Man, I only wish I had started late 20's.

Look up runners world 8 week program. Follow it and 8 weeks later running 30 minutes won't be a problem.

If it is too hard, you are running too fast

Honestly, you'd be surprised what a fitted pair of shoes can do. I'd go to a store and get fitted to a pair that matches your workload and your feet.

I wish. Swimming would be wonderful but at the moment I'm not joining a club with a pool. Definitely gonna consider it though

Shorten your strides. Don't extend past your body. Land on your midfoot.

Your form is probably very inefficient thus wearing you down.

Focus on your form and it will get easier.

Good question honestly. Jogging kills me due to asthma and people tell me to jog to strengthen my lungs. It's like advising someone to chug jalapeño juice to make GERD more tolerable.

As for my pace, I'm right at about 7 and half minutes on the mile which is a little bit better than 2 weeks ago. I may try to slow it down a hair and see how it goes.

A 7:30/mile is hauling arse for most people . Drop the pace a smidge and try to increase your distance a little bit everyday.

I know you said you're not trying to be a "runner", but it's easier to train when you have a goal in mind. Try signing up for a local 5k and give yourself a time goal.

Long breath in through your nose, then blow it out through your mouth in 3 shorter exhales. Chest up shoulders slightly back.

I'm a fatty now but I use to be able to run pretty good distances. An older fella at a health club gave me those tips and it worked for me.
