When sprinting/jumping we always stretched, distance runs not much unless I was tight or sore in a specific area after the run. Often we used warm-up drills to focus on flexibility.

When i go for a run or a gym workout I see everyone doing all these stretches and it really seems they have no freaking idea what they are doing just think they are supposed to stretch. It is funny watching some of the weird stretches they are doing

Some of the crazy stretching I see people do blows my mind.

I like when you see people doing all kinds of leg stretches before doing a chest or back workout.

I read an article that claimed that traditional static stretches can lead to more injuries. It is more important to warm up with a brisk walk for a few minutes before you start running. It's kind of hard to know what to believe.

This is what I read about 12 years ago in a textbook that cited a peer-reviewed study. Take it for what it's worth, but that matches with my own anecdotal experience.

I sometimes stretch afterwards, and/or use a foam roller. Rarely before. I may stretch to loosen up if I've been sitting at a desk all day or am sore from a previous run, but not really for prevention of injury. Just to feel better.

I've even read in cycling that stretching your major leg muscles can lead to a reduction in power output. Don't know how true that is.

For some reason I find if I walk a half mile to a mile before running it dramatically increased my endurance as opposed to just starting off running.

I did this for the first time a couple of years ago on accident. I had left my headphones and sunglasses in my car, parked in a deck a couple blocks away. Got changed at the gym and walked over to grab them. Up about 3-4 flights of stairs and back down, then I walked over to a park to start my run. I noticed how much better I felt the whole time. Now when I'm going for a run longer than 2-3 miles I always walk about 5-10 minutes first just to loosen up.

NO! This is the worst advice ever. DO NOT LAND on your midfoot.

Land on either your left or right foot.
