Aspiring doctor/lawyer calls police to report his truck was stolen while he robbed store

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WKRC) - A man allegedly called police to report that his truck had been stolen. Officers reportedly discovered that the carjacking occurred while the man was robbing a cell phone store.

According to body camera video posted by the Howard County Police Department, officers received a call from a man at shortly before 5:44 a.m. who claimed that his truck had been stolen while he was at a nearby McDonald's. The man was identified as 29-yera-old Jalen Godard in a crime bulletin from the department.

Shortly before officers responded to Godard's call, they were investigating a burglary at Verizon store that was across the street from the convenience store they met Godard at. Officers discovered a broken window at the scene with dried blood, indicating to the investigators that the perpetrator may have left the scene bleeding.

Officers checked Godard's hands while speaking with him, and noticed that one of his hands was bleeding. An arresting officer said in the body camera video that Godard had blood on his hand, glasses, and shirt.

Godard did not confess to the crime on the body camera video, but he did lament his truck being stolen. As he complained, an officer told him the situation was "karma."
