ASFA (Alabama School of Fine Arts) ~ my boy got in, not sure how I feel

on one hand, it’s a big honor, only 20 - 30 freshmen get in every year
to put it in perspective, my wife has been teaching 8th grade English for 26 years and has only know 3 kids that have ever been accepted, our boy being #3
I don’t want to stifle him, or destroy his dreams, but I’m inclined to keep him at regular school
anyone here have experience with this type of thing?
I’m a little worried about the the environment at the school, but again, don’t want to handcuff my boy…
truth is, I will agree to whatever the wife says, at least as long as she stays away from the pool in her fashionable bathing suits… but I’m nervous about this

Sounds like a more liberal/free spirited version of the LSMSA type of school. Don’t worry about handcuffing your boy, the male dominatrix student actor will handcuff him in a film acclaimed by his teachers. Or the cops will handcuff him for drug possession.

he is a vey good actor and singer, the choir director at he regular school will be disappointed if he goes to ASFA, I’m worried that he will burn out as they won’t let him participate in theatrical still, at least not next year
I want him at “normal school” but also don’t want him resenting me for forcing a choice on him that could shape his future…

Sounds like an awesome opportunity .. contrary to what the gravy-soaked cousin-frickers on this board wall tell you, broadening one’s horizons is actually a good thing.
But yeah, if you want him to be a Tigerdroppings or PoliBoard legend later in life, then by all means deprive him of this rare opportunity.
