TIME TO PREPARE: Employees return to work on Aug. 3, 2020, but we are moving the first day of school for students from Aug. 5th until Monday, Aug. 10th to allow teachers and staff more time to prepare. In addition, there will be a one-hour early dismissal every day for the first week of school so that teachers and staff can debrief. Furthermore, primary school students will attend in groups of 25% Monday thru Thursday of the first week with all primary students reporting on Friday. Middle and high schools will begin with their Phase 2 plans of 50% student attendance each day. This is to allow an easier transition for students and staff as all get used to new school operations.

QUARANTINE & SCHOOL CLOSURES: Should an employee or student test positive for COVID-19, decisions on the quarantine of individuals will be made by public health officials and appropriate actions will be taken at the school level under the guidance of our Head Nurse Jill Gautreau and our very capable school nurses. Only those individuals considered to be close contacts will be notified of the potential need to quarantine.  A "close contact" is an individual who was less than six feet away from the infected individual for more than 15 minutes, as determined by the OPH contact tracing process (see page 4 of the LDOE Strong Start Guide). Additionally, decisions regarding any school closures related to COVID-19 will be guided by local and state public officials.
Nothing wrong with moving students back a few days to prepare and show teachers how to handle all the changes. Better than throwing everyone out there with no direction

Most important part I saw

Almost half (1,327) of our employees completed the survey, and here are some of the general results:

65% (2/3) feel confident APSB can bring them safely back to work;

69% believe appropriate safety protocols will be in place when they return; and

75% either feel comfortable or are neutral about returning to their school/location.

Yep I agree. It’s going to be a shitshow trying to get all the students to comply with all the new policies and stuff.

I can’t wait to see this “deep cleaning” that’s been talked about so much. I’ve seen the level of cleaning that the current custodial staff does and it’s pathetic.

Why do they start school so early now? I graduated in 2002, and we always started the 3rd week of August.

Because they have so many Mondays off for "teacher planning days". It seems like they have them once a month.

Those are pretty good survey results — I have no kids in elem/high school butniur school board meeting last night was a shite show and nothing was decided.

Today they sent out a survey for parents but it’s accessible to everyone — even me if I wanted to complete it — so I’m guessing g results will be skewed.

I think the start date has to do with the districts trying to get the entire school year in before Memorial Day and also to get as much school in as possible before all the LEAP testing and other testing, while at the same time keeping the normal amount of holidays off.

Edit to say and also get the entire 1st semester in before Christmas break. It used to be the kids still had 2 weeks of school after Christmas break before the end of the 1st semester.

Do you have any idea how much teachers hate these? Much rather have students.

Teachers need a "safer environment".

Meanwhile......

USPS: Never stopped working delivering their dirty packages

Custodians and Janitors: Never stopped cleaning their dirty shite or emptying their dirty, infected garbage.

Walmart and other employees: Kept taking their dirty money.

Childcare/Daycare: Kept operating under new guidelines taking care of their dirty kids.

Garbage Collectors: Kept working hauling their dirty garbage.

Police: Kept working trying to keep their dirty asses alive.

And the childcare/daycare workers is what gets me. They shut down for a very short amount of time. They reopened their businesses with new guidelines in place and kept working through the pandemic.

Why? Because they have no collective bargaining power. They don't have a union strong arming a state to their will.

All those you posted don’t require the person to be around a crowded classroom for hours with the same people. Out of a class of 30, if 1 have the virus all 30 will get it by the end of that single class period. All the other professions you listed they come into contract for less than a minute with someone and chances are good they won’t get it even if that person had it

As a parent with 3 kids in Ascension schools, I can live with this proposal. This is much better than the all online, all the time plans some school districts are adopting

This is the least of your worries. If you have a middle or high school kid, your kids will essentially be going every other day and off on Fridays. Good luck leaving your 6th and 7th graders at home alone while mommy and daddy are at work.

Also, there’s a provision in place for kids who ‘aren’t comfortable’ going to in-person classes to school from home. That ought to go well.
