Do you really save that much by turning all the lights off?
My biggest problem is that I’m the one who has to replace the bulbs, plus those things aren’t cheap anymore….

I get irrationally angry over it. I also get irrationally angry if my mom comes over and turns all the fans off. In mind it keeps the air moving so the AC doesn’t come on as much.

It's not my kids. It's my wife. She turns on every light in the damn house. In the middle of the day. If divorce wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg.......

Did you slap her? You should have.

I wish my kids were home to leave the lights on. It sucks when they fly the nest.

I used to not care until it’s an electric bill that I’m responsible for haha.
Lights barely use any electricity.

This ain’t your father’s lightbulbs baws
Exactly.
I think my collective wattage draw for ALL lightbulbs (inside and out) is under 800 watts.

I’d rather them leave the lights on and not the ceiling fans

Haha that’s so funny same here. It’s the principle .. I work from home and it drives me nuts every time I come downstairs and every single light is on.. and every TV and tablet has some bullshite streaming on it, fricking up the internet bandwidth

I can’t wait to go to my kids’ houses and do whatever the hell I want. Throw my shoes anywhere I take them off, toss pillows from the couch, get a new glass of water every time I’m thirsty, and leave every light on. Lol

Simple solution - Home Assistant and smart light switches and human presence detectors, PIR sensors ect....
My 81 yo MIL in stage 5-6 Dementia walks from one room to another, up and down stairs turning on the lights and such all hours of the day and night....drove me nuts especially for things like closets could be left on for days and days with the door closed...
Home Assistant automations are programmed to detect the switch was turned on and the presence or lack thereof of people, different routines for night and day depending on the area of the house. Like 8pm - 4am if no presence for 10 mins then lights off. Other doors have sensors to turn on lights when door is opened, etc... great fun building the system.

People that get irrationally upset with lights left on, are people that call their utility bill, "the light bill".
Thr microwave oven, dishwasher, clothes dryer, ac compressor and electric furnace are the energy hogs.
Limit those and you will be fine

What do we think it cost per day to run lights in the living room for 12 hours? I’m curious.
If an LED, not much.
100 watt incandescent light takes approximately 10 hours to use 1kWH of billable usage.
An LED 100 watt equivalent uses maybe 13 watts and would need to run for nearly 75 hours to use 1 billable kWH. That would be over 3 days of continuous usage to get 1kWH.
The going rate for a kWH by Entergy is maybe 10-15 cents.
So if the light is on for 10 hours. That is 15 fricken cents a day at most.
If it is an LED, it will take you 7 and a half days using the light for 10 hours a day. To use 15 cents of electricity.
So if someone is complaining about this, it might be time to lighten up Francis.
Now if you have one of those boutique Texas Power plans that have free nights and weekends, keep the all the lights on all night and weekend long since it is free.

Shoot, I have my kids trained. They bump up the thermostats in the morning before they leave for school and they knock them back down before they go to bed.

My old man was Adolph hitler when it came to turning lights off and closing closet doors.
