I did this for the first year then realized I had a warehouse of chemical built up.. I do my own now and was amazed at how few chemicals are actually needed.
This.

I had a wonderful 30,000 gallon pool for 13 years. I never took a sample anywhere to have it analyzed.

Not to be acidic but with a basic understanding of math, physics, and chemistry and at least a 120 IQ, a person should be good.

I might end up doing this. I've certainly thought about it. I'd make a Power BI app providing customers with their updated analysis as I did it and a report of what I added to adjust. Easy peasy.

I have an issue with the term "side hustle". Just call it what it is. A second job.

Owning a pool route was my first foray into entrepreneurship. I did it while I was a teacher. It was perfect for me at the time. I needed the extra money to help my wife get through school.

It's a great side gig, not sure I'd want to own one as my main source of income.

In the industry. Start up is cheap and depending on where you are located you may or may need licensing. Guys in LA aren't licensed but in Florida for example rules are stricter.

You'll likely get some Karens who text you an hour after you leave letting you know you missed a leaf in their pool but it wasn't there when you were there.

Personally I would look at something like window cleaner or pressure washing instead. More profitable per job for sure and the big difference is you don't have to be somewhere every week. With a pool service people are going to expect you to show up consistently every week on "their day". So if you want to vacation, take a week to fish, etc. you'll see some issues. With pressure washing or window cleaning you can say "oh, I'm booked that week" and take a break.

Concur with all that, but pressure washing is a ton of work. I dread doing my own driveway and deck .

I have retired neighbors that are inside 23.5 hours a day. Doesn't seem that fun.

Agree. I have retired neighbors on both sides of our house. Never see either of them outside nor going anywhere except one of them does do his own yard every week. But other than seeing him mow grass, we never see them leave the indoors. Seems like a terrible way to retire....but to each their own.

I think there is too much comfort to being inside, if you linger in your recliner too long or don't have an objective outside the house, you can end up staying inside for hours of glorious daylight.

Of recliners, my paternal grandfather (who was born in 1900) always said, these are so comfortable that a man could lose a crop.

No, but our business insurance rep says another customer who operates a pool service company is getting sued for seven figures.

Some dipshits from California moved in and sewed them because the chlorine "made their kids sick".

The insurance company will probably settle, and the pool service company will have a tough time getting business insurance from now on.

ETA: it's easy to form an LLC to prevent a lawsuit from taking your personal property. Highly recommended.

Being a "Handyman" can be a pretty good gig. If a guy owns a bunch of good hand and power tools and has the skills to use them, knows how to fix things and does a good job at a fair price, he can make good money.

Most handyman type jobs take just a few days at most and many of them are simple things that take just a few hours to do. Cash payment at the end of the job and on your way.

If a guy is good at it, word of mouth will bring him all the work he can ever want.
