As a matter of principle. Am I the only one who simply will not boil crawfish...

At these prices?

The cheapest I can find them live is at Winn Dixie at 4.50/lb and that's just too goddamn high.

Yes I'm poor but even if I weren't, I'm still not paying that frickin' much for a food product that crawls out of frickin' mud puddle.

I'm finished.

I've not had any this year. They can keep them at these prices. I'd rather have shrimp or steaks anyway.

In westwego there is, or used to be, a booth that sells live crawfish by the pound….if that helps you out.

Same here. I enjoy crawfish boils but a lot of it has to do with the social aspect. Just not worth it at these prices.

I like crawfish about once or twice per year, but I won't miss them this year.

The thing I like most about eating crawfish isn't the crawfish itself, but rather the smell, atmosphere, corn, sausage, potatoes, beer, etc. Ain't paying these prices and probably won't have crawfish this year.

Same for me, I usually only eat a handful of crawfish and fill up on everything else.

Would it be weird to have a crawfish boil with all the fixings, just skip the.

How far from Louisiana do you have to get before crawfish is not really a big thing people eat?

It is up here in North Alabama if you search it out. But not common

There are boils in DFW but it’s not a big piece of the culture. There are LA transplants that have brought it over.

Well in these parts it's a big flippin' deal man, believe me. In fact from all of South Louisiana through South Mississippi and Mobile, it's a big deal. But especially South Louisiana.

Not really a thing in most of Georgia as far as I can tell, at least in metro ATL. I know people from Newnan, Macon, etc and it doesn’t seem to be a big deal there either.

I don’t miss it terribly but I do miss good crawfish occasionally.

But not at those crazy prices

I'm in your camp on this. I just told the wife I will boil all the shrimp she wants, but until crawfish prices come down a good bit more than they are now, I'll do without them.

To get 1 lb. of crawfish tail meat, you'd have to pick through around 8 lbs. of boiled crawfish, and at damn near $5 a lb., that works out to $40 a lb. for the tail meat.

For that price I'll buy 8 lbs. of shrimp, boil them and eat on them for a few days-------or a nice thick prime ribeye, grill it in about 5 minutes and share it with her and not have all the mess to deal with like you do with a boil.
