As I recall, Apollo took five F1 engines to get to orbit and one to get to the moon and back.
The 5 f1 engines didn't get to orbit... they were done 2.5 minutes into the ride, nowhere close to orbit. The command module used the aj10-137 to return.

Updating this thread. The second wet dress rehearsal attempt is scheduled for Thursday. If successful, launch window will open 3/6.

Yesterday's 2nd wet dress rehearsal was a big success with just a few minor hiccups. Pending any unexpected delays, launch date is set for March 6, 2026.

After the WDR NASA discovered an issue with the helium system that purges the engines and helps in pressurizing the liquid propellant tanks. The system cannot be accessed on the launch pad.
They are making preparations to roll the stack back to the VAB and will miss the March launch window.

The update came earlier today. I updated it.
The NASA administrator is discussing the future of the program at an upcoming press conference.

Updating this thread. Artemis program configuration has changed.
- They're scrapping the once every 3 year launch windows in favor of launches every 10-12 months with more simplified objectives.
- Artemis III will no longer land on the moon and instead be an orbital launch to test suits and HLS docking.
- New tentative launch dates are as follows
Artemis II - April 2026
Artemis III - mid 2027
Artemis IV - early-mid 2028
Artemis V - late 2028

Thanks for the update.
That's one small announcement for man. One giant leap in program direction for mankind.

Just read that... So 2028 is now target for first moon landing.
With Elon shifting focus from Mars to the moon, will he get there first?

So as far as I know SpaceX and Blue Origin are fighting it out to build the HLS (lander) for NASA. I think Elon's shift to the moon was part of this program change by NASA. Getting back to basics and not putting the cart (Mars and advanced moon missions) before the horse (successfully landing on the moon).
Isaacman is nicely saying that the program put in place by his predecessors is dumb and had zero chance of success.

He has been a breath of fresh air to NASA. They need him.

Ironically the first Starship V3 rolled out of the Massey build site and headed to the pad for testing yesterday.

Can't imagine whats going through the Artemis crew's heads right now... A day away from traveling further than any human has ever gone.

On the 2nd iteration of a potentially flawed ship that has had recent known issues.
I would have more confidence with the shift Isaacman has made, but still.
