Republicans are always paying liberals to move to their states. Always chasing that growth.

You’re assuming they are targeting just liberals. There are plenty of conservative STEMers trapped in the Bay, Boston, Chicago, Colorado, and the PNW who would gladly get the hell out of there if they had a great opportunity. This is that opportunity.

Science: I'll discover life on other planets.
Technology: I'll design components for a spaceship
Engineering: I'll design the ship.
Mathematics: I'll make formulas to plot the course.
Art: I'll take a dump on this apple and sell it for $500k.

The problem with this idea is that most larger companies that allow or encourage remote work in STEM areas also require you to live within an hours drive of a Mid-major airport.

NWA's regional airport probably wouldn't cut it for a lot of companies.

Wrong. XNA is a National airport now with as many or more direct flights as any similar sized airport.

They have a decent Midwest presence but they are hardly a National airport. They have 20 something flights taking off today.

Just speaking for my current and last employer's remote work policy, that airport wouldn't cut it.

I'm sure there are plenty of companies and jobs that don't require a lot or any travel, and I wasn't referring to those positions, so I'm NWA would work for a majority.

That's already happening.

I don't think Austin has great weather. The scenery is better than Louisiana, but it's not as good as NWA, yet it's one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

I think the whole "keep Austin weird" thing has a lot to do with it.

Austin has had a hippy reputation for a long time.

The funniest part is that people think this ‘remote work’ is going to go on ad infinitum.

They can keep the $10k, set me up with a job making the same amount of money as me and the wife currently make, 2 yrs tuition at the best private school in the area for my two elementary aged children and we got a deal.

I'm with you. 3 more years in this shithole state and on to NWA for us. I just hope too many progressive type idiots don't attempt the same thing. Move to NOLA or BR, they'd be among their kind there.

We're either going in the next year or two or in 5 years. Our youngest is in the 8th grade right now. I'm a bit torn between NWA or western NC/eastern Tennessee/Greenville though. Both of our jobs exist pretty much anywhere.

I love my home state but it's becoming increasingly apparent that it's unlikely to improve much in my lifetime.

The public schools are excellent in NWA. I've researched them.

Arts are a great hobby, but have no place in STEM curriculums.

Meh.

The downright boring architecture we are forced to stomach these days disagrees.
