Do everything in your power to interact with police and prosecutors as little as possible.

Since the charges weren't filed by the DA, they didn't need a "bail poster". That's what happens when police make illegal arrests.

Isn't this why we have the 2A?

That's the first thing I thought of as well...what if this kid had retreated and gotten a weapon to protect himself from an obvious illegal detainment by a sheriff on a power trip?
Clearly there is some history here, both in the tone of the sheriff and the first thing out of the mom's mouth is "What now? What did I do now?" So I suspect she has had more than several run-ins with LEO. But that doesn't give the sheriff carte blanche to just waltz into a home and arrest someone because he feels like it. Especially the son who wasn't doing anything. The sheriff was just butthurt that the son wasn't like "Yes, sir! I understand, sir!"
I'm normally pretty pro LEO but this shite is egregiously stupid/bad, and I hope the sheriff faces some sort of significant consequence for this bullshite. I hate that the taxpayers will have to pay for this, but until harsher penalties are brought to power hungry LEO like this a-hole, this kind of shite will continue to happen.

Dex threads are just too predictable at this point. He's going to look for a story of a cop doing something wrong and it won't take many posts before he's calling people bootlickers. Rinse and repeat.
In this case specifically though, if that Sheriff did what is alleged, he certainly should not hold that spot of authority and should promptly be recalled by the voters. And that family is about to get paid.

Good thing is the sheriff is an elected position and the voters can, and apparently in this case should, immediately recall him of his position.

Man, who did the voters pick this guy over? How bad must the other guy have been

I mean yea I'm assuming there is more to the story since we hear in the video there was an earlier encounter that day that isn't really elaborating on. I don't think we can cast judgement on the entire situation from just what one video shows
It's for sure only half a story.
Based on what was said it sounds like these people are regularly antagonizing their neighbors—thus the charge of harassment—and the cops are regularly being called to intervene. And the cops got tired of it.
What the guy in the video says is probably correct—the arrests were invalid, the charges will probably all be dropped, and my guess is that the sheriff knows it and knew it all along.
But I would also guess that his hope is that the rednecks might think twice next time because he's demonstrated that there are stupid prizes available to win for those who insist on playing stupid games. Further, my guess is that someone should have gone to jail when the deputies were out there earlier in the day and it irritated him that they didn't take someone in.
Those are guesses, but they are based on the fact that LE was called out earlier in the day and the statement that this is an ongoing thing.
The internet tough guys on here will downvote and cry "bootlicker," until someone they care about needs LE help and instead of being available to help them, LE is busy out at Maw and Paw's trailer settling idiot, meaningless, childish disputes like this one.
I'm fine with LE not being able to do what they did in this video, but there needs to be a nuisance law that prevents people from involving them in frivolous, BS disputes like these. These people are clearly playing the game you used to play with your sister in the back seat of the car growing up where after being told not to touch each other you would put your hands as close to her as possible while repeating, "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you."

Its just crazy to me that the actual sheriff is out there. Doesnt seem like a large county, but its not small.
Its big enough, that I wouldnt think the actual sheriff would even bother himself with this.

I don't think that's it.
I think (based on what was said), the son acted out when the deputies were there earlier in the day and the sheriff (who wasn't present then) was irritated that they didn't arrest him then.
I get it—you still can't arrest him later just because he should have been arrested earlier but wasn't—but I don't think it was as much of an unwarranted power trip as it seemed to be without the (possible) backstory.

This is exactly why I think the disturbances between the neighbors was repeated and that arrests should have been made earlier in the day but weren't.

There “needs to be” a nuisance law? Meaning there isn’t one.
Doesn’t that defeat the entire fricking point of your stupid diatribe? If there’s no crime the cops aren’t supposed to be there. If they were too busy doing something they shouldn’t be doing to respond to a real call, that’s THEIR fault, not the fault of people illegally arrested.
Yes bootlicker you are the problem.

Your entire “backstory” is made up fanfiction.

They are guesses (as I said), but they are based on what was said in the video.
But I'm not surprised at all that that was completely ignored. Not surprised the least little bit.
The low IQ of this board astounds me sometimes.

Good point. Not to defend him but I also thought sheriff was essentially a desk/political job.
