Car A and I take up both lanes so they are stuck behind me they aren’t going to blow by me only to force they’re way into the lane making a longer wait for me

I encounter a less drastic version of this every morning on Beltway 8 and the toll booths. If I’m on time, I’m a respectable citizen and get in line with the rest of the morning commuters. If I’m late and depending on the severity, I’ll cut those son of a bitches off at the last second to squeak in there.

That’s my honest answer.

Except car B is doing it correctly. In a perfect world to keep flow all the cars would merge via the zipper. Self driving cars of the future will not get randomly merging but will do it alternating at the end of the lane which is correct

Car A is causing more traffic in this situation.

Idiots... lots of idiots in this thread.

Not you, though, that was the correct answer.

The reason the right lane isn’t moving is bc you dumbasses got into the right lane too early. If all vehicles continued to use both lanes until the point the zipper merge is needed, you wouldnt be sitting still in the right lane. At the point of merge, each lane takes turns letting one car go so both lanes move at the same pace, one lane isn’t overloaded at a standstill and all driveable lanes are utilized to move traffic.

The law states that you're supposed to stay in the right lane except when passing.

What if it's the right lane that's closed?

I'm A and I do my damn best to cut off B and not let him over.

For everyone saying zipper merge, yes that is the best answer, but I don't trust 75% of people on the road to execute it properly.

The 2 statements above are literally the same
I thunk you're struggling mightily with the term "literally" because they are literally 2 different things.

The 2nd one is just what the emotional wreck tells themselves because they don't understand merging
That doesn't make sense, unless you think the person trying to cut in understands the zipper which, as a result, goes back to my point... That doesn't make sense.

The absolute opposite of the correct answer. You should probably get over 6 miles before the merge point to be the better driver. Idiot.

It depends on the situation:

Zipper merging DOES NOT work when there is construction and lanes are funneled to one lane

The people that drive to the front are selfish and entitled

Zipper merging DOES work when merging onto the interstate

The one issue with the zipper merge is that car As are Assholes and often aggressively block you from merging safely at the correct merge point. Their bad behavior kind of beats me into submission into joining them as an A.

Perfect example, with a bit of irony that you do the less efficient/safe move but then claim you don't trust others doing it correctly. Got it.
