It may sound bittersweet but it sounds right.

Fun fact (or maybe not so fun fact to The Verve) about "Bittersweet Symphony":

All the royalties made for that song went to the Rolling Stones for the Verve copying off a sampling of a Stones' song.

It really depends on if you have a career/ job that you love and enjoy or one you hate. If you have to go do a job you hate to make money it might feel that way.

If you’re doing something that fulfills you and you enjoy, you don’t feel like a slave to money.

No one is forcing you to get money or use technology. Live off the land and go live off the grid in South Dakota

Not the case anymore

May 2019, Ashcroft announced "As of last month, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards signed over all their publishing for Bitter Sweet Symphony, which was a truly kind and magnanimous thing for them to do. I never had a personal beef with the Stones. They've always been the greatest rock and roll band in the world. It's been a fantastic development. It's life-affirming in a way."

TBH, his lawyers did him no favors in the original dispute. To be clear, the dispute was never with Jagger and Richards but with ABKCO, The Stones' lawyer. The Verve asked for a license to sample a certain amount, they instead used a larger amount that agreed to. ABKCO, started and run by Allen Klein whose reputation preceded him, decided to hold them to the agreement and used that leverage to their advantage. Were they excessive in their stance? Likely. But The Verve essentially broke the agreement they signed and gave ABKCO power. Their lawyers should have known that dealing with ABKCO was a minefield. Klein was LONG known to be quite litigious so the contract should have been followed to the exact letter and, if it needed, adjusted (as it turned out it did), they should have gone back to ABKCO BEFORE the song was released.

It is good to see Mick and Keef smoothing things over

Dylan hit it when he wrote: “Gotta Serve Somebody”:

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
Indeed you're gonna have to serve somebody
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody

Good song.

I switched careers a few years ago. I enjoyed what I did but knew I’d never be wealthy doing it unless I started my own business and that’s not something I’m interested in doing at this point in my life. I make substantially more money where I’m at now.

I miss construction, I miss creating something from nothing. But the biggest difference is this job affords me the ability to live comfortably and take nice trips with my family. And honestly I can deal with work if it means I get the opportunity to actually enjoy my life outside of it.

You are a slave to whatever you chose to be a slave to. If you’ve chosen money, you’ve chosen poorly.

We are responsible for our own decisions.

This is why I sort of envy certain religious groups who take vows of poverty (Franciscans , Dominicans , Jesuits , etc. ) . They never wake up having to worry about money. They just live every day with a goal of helping others and praying.
