There are more plain clothes SS at an event than there are uniformed. It’s a layered defense and there’s a reason nobody has been successful at breaking it since Reagan

Hunter Thompson was travelling with Jimmy Carter when Carter was running, so he had close contact with the SS. He said if you ever get a chance to look in the trunk of a Secret Service car, they carry about 47 kinds of instant death.

Why would you want to frick with armed bodyguards? Shits and giggles? Life isn't a Billy Madison scene

I can tell you that two and five are not someone you want to throw hands with.

Lol they gotta catch you first. They spent like 50 million dollars on a new fence because SS was letting so many people over the old one.

Don’t forget about the agent that got the whole detail busted because he hired a pro then stiffed her on the bill.

Do candidates get SS protection? Did they back then? A cursory Google search says only within 120 days of the general election. Did Pat Robertson have SS protection? Maybe it was just his personal security.

They are bodyguards, not special ops fighters. However, they are heavily armed and are trained to use weapons.

The SS agent in that photo pulled out a sub-machine gun from under his jacket after Reagan was shot.

They are very good at their job. They can’t have a bad day if they do it becomes history.

And why does everybody set the gold standard of comparison against the SEAL’s there are better.

close contact with the SS

Let me tell you about close contact with SS. I train BJJ with 2 current career SS guys. Both were prior service military, and both are 20+ in with SS. They were both on details between Bush 2 and Obama. They are phasing out and working H-town as their final gig.

Obviously they can shoot but don't know the quals for that or the physical part behind guys that get on a detail versus those that push a pencil at a desk working counterfeit money deals. Seems like a more relaxed agency than FBI and probably don't see the action of most DEA guys.

It wasn't personal security. Since the RFK assassination, the Service has been charged with protecting candidates. Ruben Askew, Jesse Jackson, all of them. Also - as with candidate Obama, the sitting President can order protection.

If you commit wire fraud or large scale forgery they will investigate you.

A cousin of mine may or may not have had personal experience with this. And I may or may not have had to recuse myself on the grand jury that would have heard her case had the DA not come in right as we were hearing it and told us that the Secret Service had taken the case and we wouldn't be considering it.

On a scale of Puffy hat Redcoats to Navy Seals, they're Marine Recon. Well trained with a core group of soldiers with high potential for advancement and elite level performance and likely a group of frick up dumbasses mixed in.

That was in Colombia! Stiffing a hooker barely counts there.

It did cause a stink, though. Not a good career move for the main culprit and he caused collateral damage for some of his co-workers.

If you’re talking plainsclothes SS and you get close enough to “frick with them” they will frick you up

Uniformed SS is a different story
One experience from the 2016 NRA-ILA Forum. I'm disabled so they had to get the bomb dog out to check me. Then the only way to get down to the media section on the floor was through the back stage area. I dealt with a ton of uniformed SS individuals. My impression was that they were very competent and vigilant (especially for a guy who wasn't president yet) but were professionals in being polite with the public. Conversely I saw pictures of several sharp shooters up on the roof of an adjacent building. I also saw plain clothes guys in back who cycled out into the crowd as the public was let in. My impression was that people respect the suits more while the plain clothes would kick the uniformed's asses.

The funny thing about it all is 1 year earlier (before the Golden escalator ride) Trump held a press scrum out in the hallway. Watching the last two days has me amazed at the number of SS he has with him.

I'll be interested next Friday when he speaks at the NRA-ILA Forum in Indy. I have a strong feeling that it's going to be a circus with all the left wing nuts. Of course Hogg is too big of a coward to show up and protest himself.
