Are the effects of marijuana the same in 2019 as they were in 1979? 1989?

I don’t get stoned because I’m not a total loser ( kidding) , it’s illegal ( freakin Trump ) and I want to set a good example for my children ( only one of whom despises me). But my buddy The Sergeant swears that weed no longer has all the bad side effects ( dry mouth paranoia penis shrinkage spontaneous human combustion insanity etc ) that it had back in the salad days when Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin ruled the earth and foxy ladies wore tube tops. He says it just has a relaxing effect because it’s been so cultivated and refined . I say he’s just full of shite and gets stoned so much that it’s like drinking a glass of water to him. What’s the truth here ? Edumacate me on this.

Your buddy is pretty ignorant.

You can still have bad effects from consuming too much.

I thought it had been cultivated to achieve higher levels of THC.

It has, as growing methods are far more advanced and superior to the 70s/80s.

It's a lot stronger today, and still has some of those same side effects. Dry mouth, paranoia, anxiety, munchies, etc. The only real difference is the good stuff today doesn't give me a headache like the crap we used to get in the 80's in high school did.

I’d say he’s wrong. If you took one or two strong rips of the stuff I have, you’d be on my couch for two hours.

I've had very mixed results with those things, probably because most of the ones I've gotten have been black market ones. The one that came from an actual dispensary was great though.

Every time I've smoked in the last few years I get very paranoid. Not fun. I miss when it was fun to smoke in college.

The science of it has advanced so much that the answer is “it depends”. Go download the app “Leafly” (or don’t), it is literally reviews on different strains....and there are thousands.

To answer your question, there are still negative effects. Some makes you sleepy, some make you paranoid, most give you dry mouth....I’m probably in the minority, but my preferred strains are an aphrodisiac for me, so again, it depends on the strain/person.

I think it is probably the opposite. They are breeding it for strumph these days not for relaxation.

I live just over 6 months of the year in southern Oklahoma. Oklahoma just passed medical marijuana and I have a card. I live the other part of the year in southern California where it is legal.

I didn't smoke weed for over 20 years while in the military, but now I partake a few times a week.

So what about edibles? Specifically the 10 mg lollipop ones ? Do you get the same effects as smoking?

Yes. They can also get you really fricked up if you have a lower tolerance, so some of the effects are magnified. It can be hard to gauge how much is too much because it can take 1-2 hours for edibles to kick in.

Too much edibles gives me horrible anxiety to the point it's unpleasant.
