Of all the classic roller rink songs, you went with Egyptian Lover?

Dodgeball was rad. I remember the skating rink in Lafayette circa 1980 had a drink on the board named “dynamite”. It was a bit of every soda on the fountain in one cup.

I always loved when they would bring the "big tent skating rink" to our lil town. We didn't have one so they didn't want to leave us out.

We would start an unsanctioned game of tag among just us and whoever and it turned into not just tag but also trying to be inconspicuous and not get busted by the staff for being reckless. If so, you’d have to sit in time out on the hexagon shaped benches for 5-10 minutes.
Hokey Pokey was so gay.
Couple skating leading to some heavy petting at the end of those dark side areas that were surely created just for that.

All of the ones in Mississippi disappeared.

A certain demographic started taking over the rink on Saturday nights, and the other demographic stopped going.

In a lot of places skating has made a sort of comeback where older, 30 and 40s, have gone back to do skate nights. Skating rinks is where Gen X learned to be social so it makes sense to me.

Don’t accidentally get skating rink videos into your TikTok algorithm! Apparently Sunday night skate nights are still a huge thing in the Midwest.

We used to take our kids to Skate Galaxy on Jefferson Highway until it was taken over by a certain group of residents, but that was years ago. It seems to still get lots of business, though.

Ours is always packed Friday and Saturday nights but it tends to be trash and there's a lot of fights so we don't let our kids go then. Mornings are usually okay and there is always a bunch of birthday parties going on. Skating is not dead by a long shot.

Same deal with our trampoline park. Day okay, night absolutely not.

Where? I haven't seen one since House of Wheels and Roller City.

The old skate Zone on congress. It’s just passed the hospital like you are headed to Acadiana High. I can’t remember what it’s called. But I take my kids there pretty often.

My daughter loves to skate and she goes to the same skating rink that me and my sister went to as kids in the late '80's-90's. They've been open for 44 years(same owners)and they are still raking.

Same here for my daughter. She just started asking to go in the past few months because she said a bunch of her friends went every weekend. So we have started letting her go and when I dropped her off the first time the memories of that place from 25-30 years ago came flooding back for me.
