Like I said above in Husky vs Stihl....a Husky runs higher rpm, and doesn't make torque like a Stihl. That's why they don't last as long. They are designed for hard, dry wood (which is similar to cheap saws). It is easier to peel, so you don't need to bear down on the saw like on wet wood. A Stihl will take that weight, and keep pulling through everything

Tattoo this in your brain.

As far as Poulan, no it's not really a decent chainsaw. It's worth having if you're experienced at knowing how to keep it running/fixing it. It's been my experience that learning how to adjust the carburetor is extremely important (it's pretty simple to do).

We used to go through nearly one Poulan per season at the deer camp when I used ti go a lot. Just general upkeep type work on a few thousand acres. Ended up with a stihl and think they still use the same one (havent been going much myself the last several years)

Husqvarna

Is who makes poulan

Poulan is basically a stripped down version of Husqvarna without the fancy bells and whistles so it can be sold cheap

Thanks for the tip. Didn't know that. I'm just using it to keep my property shaped up. 2 1\2 acres with lots of 30 to 40 year trees. Lots of oak and some pine. Guess I'll see how it goes. May end up the Stihl in the end. Brother in law has both and prefers the Stihl but has no complaints with his Husqvarna.

In other words, don’t expect it to run like a Husqvarna. You get what you pay for, baw.

Beyond Stihl and Husq, another very good brand is Echo. I only start mine once or twice a year at most, and the fricker consistently starts on the first try and runs like a champ.

Longest I went between starts was 16 months, though it was never supposed to be that long, and it worked like a charm. I had put in storage correctly, for the record.

Stihl with the “No tools needed” feature is hard to beat. Nothing worse than having to look for screwdrivers or wrenches when doing work you’d rather not be doing.

Sharpen your chains.

Husqvarna 455 Rancher is considered the AK47 of chainsaws. There is a YouTube video of a guy throwing one off a roof, leaving it in a creek overnight and the damn thing just keeps firing up.

MS250 is a great saw, nothing wrong with the carburetor (usually Zama units which are in everything and work great). I have a mid-1990's Stihl 025 and other than regular maintenance, keeping a sharp chain on it, and blowing the saw down with the air compressor after each use, I've only had to replace the oiler pump and a fuel vent line. Everything else is original.

Even the service guy told me the 250 is a bitch. Simply YouTube the stihl 250ms and you will find videos about how difficult it is to crank this bitch. It floods extremely easy. Mine doesn’t even have 10 hours on it and I am willing to let it go cheap!

Poulon is husqvarna’s low end brand.
Pretty much a disposable saw.

Can’t speak to a Poulan, but my Stihl Farm Boss is an awesome chain saw.

If you are like me and only might use a chain saw a couple times a year, get a electric one, that's what i did and was a good decision. I have 2 Poulan gas ones and it was a pain to keep them running.
The electric saw i got is a Homelite 16'' 12 amp from Home Depot, ive had it for 3 years now and it's really worked well and will surprise you how well and fast it cuts.I also bought a pole electric pole saw from china freight that has held up well.

My parents have had a couple of Poulan tools, and we eventually started calling these “Pull on” tools because that’s mostly what you do: pull on the cord.

Keep a Echo in mind too! Been running one for three plus years trouble free.
