Is that the old Acadiana Mall? My malls growing up in that area were the Northgate Mall and then the Acadiana Mall

Mall of Louisiana is the bigger one in Baton Rouge.

Northgate in Lafayette is gone. I think Acadiana Mall isn't far behind.

I argue it's more economic than cultural.

I want to go shop at stores, but they don't have enough options. I can get whatever I need from Amazon or Walmart delivered to me in 2-3 days (same day if in a major metro).

It isn't the store's fault. They can't keep hordes of inventory just for someone who wants to compare and get the best deal. It's just the way it is now.

Department Stores are better at this than the other little stores. But I find that they have weird sizing and inventory sometimes.

I kinda miss the tool and equipment section of Sears.

The rent they pay requires they over charge for shite

This is true as well, however I don't necessarily mind paying a little more an in store product that I want.

My main gripe is they usually have shite options. Even if they do have a more well-made product, often the product doesn't have the specifications I need. I'll take a shite product that does 50% of the job over a quality that product that doesn't do what I need it to do. The quality product might be well crafted and durable, but if I can't use it, it doesn't matter.

Lakeside Mall is the standard and has been for decades. I have no idea why it thrives while so many malls have failed across the country.

It literally makes no sense. It has all the potential for negative stuff that has doomed other malls (like its old, the general area demographics, etc) but it hasn’t succumbed to any of it.

Idk if it’s mall management or what, but someone needs to study that place.

I've been to the mall a decent amount recently actually. There are a few stores I like in person, and the movie theater is there.

Indoor malls in actual good locations never went away. it was the overbuilt poor locations that made it all look bad.

Willowbrook as well, but I do see Greenspoint making a comeback in the next 10 years or so the hipsters are coming in. It will be a gentrification hotspot

I visit the Mall about once per year, usually out of necessity, and each visit confirms for me how appealing online shopping/buying is.

This.
Really can’t expound on it any more without getting banned.

Outdoor malls appeal to women and women buy a lot more stuff than men.

But logically it doesn’t make any sense and is far less efficient from a space standpoint.

Why would I want to park my car and walk around in the heat & humidity or cold & rain rather than just staying in the temperature controlled and covered mall?

Columbia's one mall had a huge shootout a few years ago. One guy had some kind of beef with another guy. They passed each other inside the packed shopping mall, pulled guns, started shooting at each other.

In typical thug style, they never actually shot each other. However, they did manage to shoot 9 innocent people, including children.

I feel sorry for anyone who didn’t grow up in the glory days of the indoor mall. “Going to the mall” was always a guaranteed good choice. Like many, Cortana was our stomping grounds. Bon Marche before that.

and yes lakeside is a happy reminder of that

Last Friday I went to Southland Mall in Houma, it was dead. Basically its 2 wings, one wing was full of stores and the other wing was dead, a few dance studios and 2 furniture stores.

I went there for the 1st time in a long time yesterday. I was surprised it wasn’t more crowded and was rather clean. It was also on the earlier side of the opening so may have had something to do with it.

Is it though? That place has sucked for 30 years.
