I’m an RN. I’m no hero. I don’t make tik tok videos and have never seen one made. The joke is old and weak and needs to go away. As someone else said, administrations misguided attempt at keeping morale up and some people just trying to be involved.
2nd month of all this BS, there were church groups at the entrance to the hospital giving us standing ovations for going to work??? Thanks for the thought, I guess. And we get cards and letters from kids in church groups, schools? Etc, thanking us for Yada, yada, yada. It’s nice but a little embarrassing. I get paid to do this and I used to enjoy my job, a lot. Covid has sucked some of the joy out. If Covid patients get sick and take that fork in the road, it’s real bad. They just hang on and hang on while on the vent. Misery. Knowing that all I’m doing is fighting to keep people alive that have slim to no chance of meaningful recovery is a challenge. But it’s what I do. I accepted that long time ago. Just keep going hoping for small victories and that herd immunity hurries up. And maybe I might get back to the days of bigger victories
This isn’t the most dangerous job I’ve had. I’ve climbed derricks and telephone poles and worked with electricity. It’s all dangerous if you don’t take the precautions. Doctor I worked with died of Covid and all that goes with it. He wore a full face mask all the time.
A lot on here would like to think it’s no big deal and blown out of proportion. Y’all are full of crap. No one knows who will get it and if you do then which ones will get sick and die.
A relative had his pre existing heart condition get worse because of Covid and required surgery.
shite. I’m not sure where I’m going with this. Just frustrated. I want my life back just like everyone else.

I work in healthcare. I’m not brave. I do what many can’t. That doesn’t make me special. I don’t ask for praise. I get internal satisfaction for what I do. That’s it. Makes me not more special than what you do.

Some words are used in the wrong context, this is one of them.

Spending a 16 hour shift in the emergency room of NY Presbyterian Hospital last March took some serious courage.

Just like cops. Wouldn’t call a healthcare worker or a cop brave

This is a really dumb take. Cops are some of the bravest people out there. To be put in the situations they are in on a daily basis, you have to be brave. Especially this day in age where they're vilified by the media. Spend a week with a cop on the beat and then got back with me.

They chose their profession and know the risks. So they are not Brave or Heroes. Both terms are basically meaningless in 2021. You are a hero if you get out of bed in the morning.

Fisherman that fish for crabs off of the Alaskan coast know the risks before they go and do it. They get paid well because of those risks.

I have never considered them brave.

Normally, no. But in the first few weeks of the pandemic, when we really didn't know what to expect, many of them did their duty, and I respect that.

Teachers and nurses have fought each other for the "hero" mantle throughout this entire episode moreso than ANY other profession.

Teachers were always attention whores, but took it to a new level when they turned up the volume on how overworked and brave they were.....while working from home. Like literally everyone else.

There are a lot of perks or opportunities that go along with that service so that is a main reason why they do it.

You think that's why Pat Tillman did it? He gave up an NFL salary and lifestyle to do what he believed was right, and he was killed.

He did, also did it for the street cred and rightfully so. He was still doing a job and he knew he was getting into.

No, they are doing their jobs. Nothing more.

For people who are so busy, it's amazing all the facebook posts and tik tok videos they can make.

My cardiologist recently came out as a tranny so I'd consider her pretty brave.

No. We are not 'brave'. Not any 'braver' than a grocery store clerk, or truck driver, or anyone else just doing their jobs. At least we have real PPE to protect us when dealing with sick patients.
