Akchually, many healthcare workers work for free at times in charitable endeavors.

like cops. 22nd most dangerous job in the US, behind the likes of garbage collectors (5) and farmers (8).

the brave ones are the ones who pick up your trash or grow the rice. thats real danger.

I just saw a "A HEALTHCARE HERO LIVES HERE!" yard sign over the weekend. So someone not only considers themselves a hero but feels strongly enough to put up a yard sign about it.

Give me a fricking break.

Pediatrician across the street had one. I didn’t know her and went and said thank you for all you do. She asked did I have kids. I said o little ones. We talked and she asked what I did I said just an ER Doctor. She took the sign down the next time I looked

A job does not make you brave or special. This includes cops and military. I'll never understand why some people think other people are special because of the job they chose.

Are they heroes? Absolutely not

Not a job I would want. So they are brave to me. Work respects work.

I don't know if they should be considered brave. To be honest, I don't really care. If they took praise in stride, fine by me. However, the self-promotion of it is a little off-putting.

Do you have any idea what nurses, straight out of nursing school have been making the last year? I know someone that is making 3x as much as she was this time last year. Same employer, same job. Only thing that has changed, is Covid came along.

Will the same employer reduce her pay once the pandemic and hysteria of COVID subsides to zero?

Yep. They already have for employees. Contract nurses still get the money until the contract expires.

They are deserving of praise just like most professions are. They are getting their 15 minutes and it will end soon. Nobody deserves as much praise as combat veterans.

At the end of the day, they signed up for this. They are merely doing their job. A big part of the job description was dealing with sick people.

My opinion is the same with the military. We haven’t had a Draft in several decades so Everyone who has served or is serving since the last draft knew there was a chance they were going to be killed when they decided to join. There are a lot of perks or opportunities that go along with that service so that is a main reason why they do it.

I think it’s more of a hospital administration initiative, trying to keep morale up in their workforce. I always laugh at the “Hero’s work here” sign outside of the hospital.

My wife is a nurse over infectious diseases (covid) at her nursing home. She wouldnt call herself brave, but she has had alot to deal with the past year. She has never complained on social media or asked for any attention or praise.

My sister the teacher on the other hand....

Well, let's just say we arent speaking.

I can’t imagine being a med/surg, or ICU nurse during this past year working in NY, NO or any other city where COVID cases shot up.
