You think that's why Pat Tillman did it? He gave up an NFL salary and lifestyle to do what he believed was right, and he was killed.
not shitting on him, he did what he thought was honorable, based on his family's military past from what I've read, but that baw wasn't wired exactly right

as a healthcare worker, no... just doing the job I/we signed up for, even if it is battling a global pandemic...

I had someone thank me for my “service” when I was in the checkout line at Kroger a few weeks ago (wearing scrubs after I got off work). There have been very few situations that I’ve been more embarrassed than that day. The media has blown this thing out of proportion. Getting sick is a occupational hazard, just like in any other field.

No, we just want a paycheck, and circumstances put us in the “limelight”.

How dare you question the commitment of these brave soldiers of health. They bust their arse for hours and hours and can barely afford the newest Range Rover because of all the student loan debt that YOU selfish assholes won’t forgive. So here these poor souls are driving in to work in a last years model vehicle to save your arse when they could be enjoying a leisurely job on an oil rig, in the military, etc. Just give them their attention and don’t forget to like and subscribe on TikTok and Instagram.
I'm amazed at all of the posts equating some Facebook and tik tok posts with reality...
Like you lads known that shite ain't real life, right? That's just some randos going look at meeeeee and not indicative of the entire population..

The minimum wage workers at Walgreens are heroes, too!

The real heroes are all the men with Facebook and tiktok accounts looking for nurses dancing. And posting on forums about how shiity of a profession they have.

But why are they put up on such a high pedestal as if they are equivalent to marines in WWII.
Because of this bs pandemic. Heck grocery store workers are heroes as well at this point in time per politicians and the media.

I don’t think of myself as brave.
The real unappreciated heroes in healthcare are the housekeeping staff. Just my opinion.

Ok for every Pat Tillman there are probably 1000 Joe Somebodies that do bc it is a good opportunity given their situation.

Not really just doing what they signed up to do
With that criteria, you can say police, firefighters, and military personnel aren’t brave neither.
I’m a healthcare worker and I don’t consider myself brave. Brave would be visiting Covid patients and doing in home visits with Covid patients without my PPE on. I’m just doing my job, but it feels good to be appreciated for doing my job.

I will say if anyone ever put a "hero lives here" sign in my yard for any reason, I'd immediately throw it out. It's so cringe it's beyond belief.
Also the overuse of the word hero is annoying as hell, and has made it borderline useless.

It's an honorable profession but you don't have to be brave to take care of people with a virus with a more than 99% survival rate. It's not like you're taking care of ebola patients.

The ones that have been working on covid floors for a year, yes. The ones like me that have only done like 6 shifts on covid floors because of staffing needs, no. Do I compare them to WW2 marines? naw. I compare them to medics in a non volatile base i guess if you were comparing nurses to soldiers.

As a nurse myself, the tik tok videos are embarrassing to my profession. Makes us look like we all don t do anything all shift.
