No. They shed everywhere unless you have an ugly hairless one and they destroy curtains, furniture, blinds, etc.

This is the litter box I have:
I have that one too, and I agree with what you said in your last post. The crystals are expensive and I end up cleaning the grates off every time. This thread has me thinking about the robot.

I just noticed they make a plastic or stainless steel tray for these boxes now. Will be the first thing I buy today for 40 bucks. Will pay for itself after 2 litter box tray changings.
As will I

Just the cheap clumping litter.

A good cat is way better than a dog.

Years ago I was making a delivery at a grocery store and could see into the back yard of the animal shelter next door. They had a cat out in the back and I walked over and it was being very playful and such with me. Lady came over and I asked her what its story was - lady showed me the documents that it was about to be euthanized. Went home, drove back to the shelter and got it out of there for free. That cat lived many years in my home and was the best little thing. Couldn't have asked for a better pet.

We have a cat and weren’t cat lovers at all. She is adorable. She just showed up at our doorstep one day as a little kitten sitting on the doorstep like she just chose us as her home. Smart little thing too no training required doesn’t need a litter box. She refuses to come inside on her own she will stop at the door and sit there even if you hold it open. We can pick her up and bring her in but after 10 minutes she wants back out. She stays under the carport and won’t poop near the house she goes behind a big oak tree near the fence to do that. I saw her one time as a kitten try to venture away from the house and she found some paper somewhere and left little pieces of it as a trail from the carport all the way to front of house and to neighbors yard exactly 10 human steps apart so she could find her way back. And she seems to know I hate roaches because she finds them in the yard and kills them and leaves the dead roaches by the back door for me to see

It still smells. I have the robot. I’ve tried all the different litters. It’s in a room with the door closed and I can still smell it when I walk by. My wife doesn’t smell it though. My theory is people that grew up with cats just don’t smell it anymore
It does smell right after they go but once it dumps it doesn’t. Also, I change the carbon filter which makes a difference. AND you don’t have to scoop twice a day we have 2 cats and I empty it around 7-10 days.

They are great pets for the right, responsible people, same as any other pet. We have several plus a small dog, no issues except the constant entertainment. Ours are kept strictly indoors, we have several large litterboxes that are kept clean and I use a product called Ammosorb (ammonia odor absorbent) that is a game changer. Behavioral issues are from bad owners, cats are not low maintenance as even though they don't need to be taken for walks they still need active engagement to be happy.

They are incredible companion animals. Their reputation as aloof assholes is undeserved. All of my cats through my life actively want to spend time with me and are very affectionate. Like most other animals, the more you put into them the more they will return. When i say cat, i mean the typical domesticated short hair and long hair. When we get into irregular breeds, like Bengals, i am less generalized. Not that those are bad pets, but they are different.
They fall under the relative ease of care for all the items you mentioned, and that is a pretty widely held assumption. That being said, a lot of cats in the elder years need a lot of extra care, more so than a lot of dogs i find. and they can be quite long lived, so that could be several years of extra care. Something to consider. They still should have routine care and check up. and i recommend regular dentals for them. Cats get some very nasty tooth disease if left uncheck for too long.

I've lived in my current house that's surrounded by oak trees for 3 years and have had a live roach inside one time. Not coincidentally, it was in a room where the door is kept closed. I have however woken up to find a leg or two. That's disgusting, but I appreciate the little savage.

I've noticed male cats are actually pretty damn cool. Females.. meh

Cats are underrated by a lot of people , mostly by the ones who have never had one.
I brought one home once, it having wandered up to where I worked. My husband adamantly did not want it, having been raised by a mom who HATED cats, so he had never been around any. Within a month he was completely won over! That cat was hilarious and brought us a ton of joy for 18 years.
A cat lying on you, purring, is one of the most calming feelings.
Cats are like people in that they all have different personalities, and some shine more than others. She was quirky, fun, affectionate, and loyal . I suspect anyone who has a cat they don’t bond with just has a dull cat. (But few are dull!) If you are open to liking a cat, and not just knee-jerk “I hate cats”…you will probably find them awesome pets.
I would get another, but I am afraid it would outlive me since I likely don’t have another 18-20 years, and I don’t want someone getting stuck with an old cat…or worse….taking it to be euthanized because it is an inconvenience. A niece and I joke about it, she says I should get one, I say I will and would leave it a “trust fund.”…She promises to take in “Trust Fund Kitty.” I just might do it.
TLDR: yes, cats are underrated. They can be superb pets.

Great picture, I can imagine those cats walking towards the camera to the tune of Seven Nation Army!

Simple.. I prefer my pets to shite and piss outside. Don't come at me with "oh my cat shits and pisses outside".. Most cat owners i know have litter boxes inside their house.
Only way I would have a cat as a pet is if it were a barn/shop cat to keep mice and rodents down.

I hated cats my whole life. Then the Cat Distribution System chose my daughter and I got stuck with a kitten. She somehow became MY cat and lived 17 years. I really dig them now.

I like cats. Just can't eat a whole one by myself.
