Over $700 bucks and only ten years old. I’d call that over rated.

A lot more years left in it. And the look suits many types of occasions

I have an LL Bean that I’ve had since highschool in the 90’s. Pretty sure it was under $100 then. And looks like unde $300 now Zero repairs. Doesn’t need waxing. And handles Great Lakes winters no problem

Cool - love that for you

Let me get this straight, you paid over $500 for a jacket then had to spend over $200 for repairs just to make it 10 years and you think that’s good?

Guaranteed a $50 jacket from Walmart can last 10 years without any repairs

Yes and Yes. I will never spend $600+ on a jacket. That's so dumb if you live within 200 miles of the gulf. That screams I care so much about how others perceive me and need to wear brands that impress others because there's no practical need when plenty other jackets are fine for here. If you're buying for a trip to Coloardo, then congrats on getting $150 per day of use.

No I'm not poor, I make over $200k at 30 years old which might be more than every other 30 and under here. Despite that, I will never buy something like this. The absolute most you'll see me ever spend on a jacket is $150. I'll take a Columbia, North Face, or Patagonia if it's under that price, and no I'm not above going to a consignment shop in a good part of town and buying the brands I listed for $20. I'd do it in a heartbeat if were in my size and good shape.

I’ve had my Beaufort Barbour jacket for over 15 years. Has some dings but it gives it character IMO. I’ve hunted in it and can also dress it up. Was it expensive? Sure. But it also lasts because it’s well made and has been absolutely worth it. My three year old has one too but that’s just me being pretentious

absolutely not, regarding the heavy waxed canvas cloth clothing. neither is Filson. I play in the woods and work in them. I've got one of each that no other brands could come close to in terms of durability and warmth/wind cutting ability, and classic style for work or dress. a well-worn waxed canvas Barbour or Filson jacket is a beautiful, practical, rugged and attractive jacket. they're old friends, and their smell hits you like the feeling of a cold north wind. you're not just paying for the material, the hardware is superior. yeah, the jacket is $400, but it will go to your children with a little maintenance and upkeep. mine are family heirlooms. try that in a sitka small town. I blow a shite ton of money on stupid shite that has to do with the outdoors.

I’ve never heard of this jacket brand until this thread and I have a few thousand dollars worth of jackets in my closet.

I play in the woods all the time and when I’m cutting I don’t even wear a shirt

LL bean also had a lifetime warranty at that price in that day.
Sadly they got rid of it. Although I haven’t had to use it on any of their products. Usually would catch a button on something and can see that back on myself.

Interesting at $500 you’d think it would have a warranty for lifetime free waxing.

But as others have pointed out. Their marketing is about price point. If it was $100. With same quality. Would people be raving over it. Unlikely. People don’t rave over LL bean. Or Eddie Bauer. Yet both have great outdoor gear that will last decades.

Bean is still a good company with good people, but almost everything they sell is unfortunetly made in Asia. They just put their label on it.

I would like to point out quality of most clothes have dropped. Most old clothes made in 50-70 last a lot longer than items made today. Even by same company.

A lot of warranties have disappeared.

And yet. People pay more now.
because now you can take a picture wearing it and let strangers know what you spend your money on. And get more joy out of what other people know we own. Than the joy we just get actually owning it.

Sad a lot of companies are like this. Fortunately I haven’t changed size in a while so rarely buy new clothes besides underpants and socks. . If I do it’s used because quality is usually better. Wool everything

Members only jackets are the way to go.
Just like the flip phone, removable car radio head, parachute pants, and muscle shirts.

All men’s jackets are overpriced.

Because real men don’t get cold.

Ooook. I was just curious as they pop up on ads on my FB feed.

I've found a price is never too high if the quality backs it up.

They look like the kind of ****y thing that poorer white guys spend money on to try to fit in. Are Orvis jackets out now?

It's weird how long some older clothes have lasted compared to newer clothes. Jeans are where I see your point the most.

i've never heard of this jacket until this thread, so i had to google. they look pretty nice. i dont think i understand the concept of a "waxed jacket", but whatever. they look cool.

that said, i bought a Carhartt from the College Station Academy in 2002 that is finally broken in, so i'm probably just going to stick with it.
