Just opened mine and gotta say Wow, this thing has sound like a Bose Soundwave.

No I get that. Doesn’t make Apple apps anywhere near as good as their competitors just because they control the platform.

I haven not heard the Homepod but it gets really good reviews on sound quality. I'm pretty heavily invested in Apple ecosystem but the price is steep. I'm curious if it actually sounds any better than the others?

It sounds amazing, like I said, sounds like a Bose Soundwave.
And you can play Pandora or Spotify on it, you just cannot do voice commands if using those apps.
