In HS I aced every test but never did homework so I was a straight C student smarter than people w honors. Should I go back and appeal? At least I had a half excuse of shitty parents that never checked or even asked if homework was done. Grow up, learn your lesson, and take responsibility.
I certainly don't think anyone has a leg to stand on when it comes to appealing a specific grade. Grades identify which students did "better" in the class. And I'll admit that a student who got the same test scores and also excelled at the other aspects of the class did "better" than me. So I don't deserve to walk around with an A or a B the way they do. And I definitely realize that the rules are written and I'm not above them. So if a teacher draws a line in the sand, it is what it is.
But, even if I was the one that made an A and did all the extra BS work, I would have no problem with a teacher passing a student who mastered the material, but didn't necessarily check all the nonsense boxes. Wouldn't necessarily want them getting the same grade as me, but a passing D is no skin off my back and I think is understandable. So if I was the student in the failing position, I'm going to be knocking on teacher's doors seeing if I can get that kind of deal. If I was a teacher, I just don't think I could hold a student back who obviously knows the material over something so trivial. Granted I'd have never put it in the syllabus to begin with.

You’re getting roasted here but I feel you. Going to LSU English classes was such a waste of time. It’s such a bs policy but it is what it is. You’re pretty much screwed have fun back in English next semester

I would because showing up is literally the easiest part of any class. It takes almost no effort at all to just show up for an hour a day 3 times a week.
If a student willingly chooses to ignore something that is very clearly spelled out on day 1, why should they pass?

This same logic can be turned around you. Why should you get to pass when you chose to not do what was required of you?

Maybe not.
Missing that many classes is a big frick you to your position as a teacher.

Hey, long story shot, I'm sure I am not the only one this has happened to, but I failed my english based purely on attendance.
The average of my papers was a 90, and I had an A in the class until participation was factored in which then brought my grade down to C+. I now have an F on my transcript because of this attendance policy.
I'm almost positive appealing the grade would be pointless and they wouldn't change it, but it's at least worth a shot. Just curious to see if anyone has had success with this in the past.
Based on these 4 sentences, you definitely need to retake that English class. And, quite possibly the English class before that one.
Damn.

Typical kid, doesn't follow policy and rules wants special treatment.
Go to your safe space and hug it out or go scream at the sky in your vagina hat.

Go to class next time. It is a policy now that attendance matters, stop being a bitch and grow up.

Yeah LSU has a grade exclusion policy that you can use 3 times.
Go take it this summer. It's just one hour in the morning. Unless you'll be spending too much time this summer jacking off to go to class and get an attendance F again.

If a teacher has some belief that their purpose is to teach you the ability to follow arbitrary instructions that actually have no reflection on your ability to understand the material, then that's on them.
Yep and they get to grade that way if they wish.
quote:
When a teacher in a different section decides that they don't take attendance and can give the same credit for the same class, then attendance is obviously not in any way part of the necessary curriculum for that course.
This is not true. If you think it's true then you know nothing about how a university works.
quote:
So why should any one teacher be able to use it as a reasoning for stopping a student from moving forward.
No, you definitely don't understand these things.

You "sometimes you just have to show up people" are going to get stuck in 8-5 jobs doing meaningless BS all day.
I see logic is not in your intellectual tool box.

I am now in a career where I leave at 2 if I don't have anything to do.

And just like in college, I take advantage of it.

But when I need to take care of business, I get my shite done whether it be during working hours or at 2 a.m. (I have no control over when I get calls). It's worked well for me.
Taking care of business for this English class meant showing up. Since you're such a proponent of "taking care of business", it seems you would have gladly shown up, right?

Exactly
Rule says go to class or risk failing
Them: but I can get an a without going to class.
Like. Holy shite. Just fricking go. I could pass my first two years of undergrad and get a's without trying, yet I still went to class because if I didn't I'd fail after a # of missed classes.

I dint have sime false sense of self worth that im the fatekeeper to all knowlege. If a kid can learn eithouy me, then so be it. Im just there to ensure he knows the material in that case. Either by teaching and testing, or just testing.

If you've had the pleasure of reading papers from students over the past 10 years, you'd understand that 7/8 of kids need major help writing papers. What's the point in trying to teach a kid who already knows how to write papers to write papers?
I had to take a literature class that required writing a bunch of papers. People thought I was a genius after reading mine, even though I didn't read the stories. I just wanted to bang my head on the desk after reading theirs

Thats like complaining that you werent given a promotion over someone when you made all the office staff meetings and they didnt. But reality is they out perform you day in snd day out even though they dont make the meaningless meeting. Life doesny work based on ticking off meaningless BS boxes. It matters that you get done what is needed. I cant complain that simeone got a degree from my institution and knows the exact same stuff as me because he missed some class. Thats insane.

This always struck me as the first real lesson about the real world..
You can do the work in less than 40 hours, and you can do it well (A grade before attendance), but you still have to go to work/class because your boss/teacher says so.

I understand that, but in my case I was able to make an A on the assignments without showing up to every class. It seems unintuitive to in turn fail me because of that.
Look you stupid frick - the SYLLABUS is what you deal with. The SYLLABUS is the bridge connecting the overall university structure to that specific class. Your peformance in accordance with the SYLLABUS determines how that specific class relays a grade to the university on your behalf.
It is very much like a contract.
You got the SYLLABUS. You read the terms and provisions and instructions. Your grade was assigned in accordance with that SYLLABUS.
Your only recourse is to demonstrate the SYLLABUS violated a university policy or that there was an error on the part of the instructor in following the SYLLABUS.
You are a dumb frick. Your parents are dumb fricks too. They should have explained this to you when your dumb fricking arse went off to school.
Stop diddling your a-hole on this site and dig through univeristy policy to see if you have recourse. If you don't, which seems likely, then learn your fricking lesson, take ownership of this, and move the frick on.

Dude, you earned that F. Live with it. And here is the important lesson... the easy classes where you can earn an A without showing up are the ones you always attend. There might be a dumb hot chick who needs help.
