The judge. In this case, it was an ad hoc judge because the 2 local ones were recused by the LA supreme court. The judge in this case is a former trial court judge in Calcasieu for decades who just finished a term on the 3rd circuit court of appeals.
She isn't a threat to run, so it wasn't likely she would be remanded pending sentencing.

Seems like some good old boy bullshite to me. Or maybe she's banging the judge too or a favor was owed. Average citizens, when found guilty of crimes of this magnitude, are not allowed to go home for 6 weeks and get their affairs in order.

Nobody associated with the legal part of this case is from DeRidder.
The judge is an ad hoc judge from the LC area.
The prosecutor is from the Calcasieu DA's office, not the Beauregard DA's office.
The defense team is from Lake Charles.

the max sentence has already been posted, 10 for count 1 and 7 for count 2. Whatever the judge decides they will almost certainly run concurrently. So max 10 we will see what he does. She will also have to register as a tier 1 sex offender
And she’s out on bond because the DA and the judge agreed to that before trial began, as she was determined not to be a flight risk or a danger to the public. There remain restrictions on her contact with her children, drinking, etc

I'm going to guess something like 5 years, suspend 3-4.
The 2 biggest issues are (1) sexual offender registration and (2) felony conviction that cannot be expunged/removed. Those will have much bigger impacts than a year in jail.

the trashiness quotient for this affair is off the charts, but the criminality of what she did is a little less severe. The young man was 16, pretty clearly not a virgin to sex or alcohol, and despite the publicity is otherwise unharmed (at least physically). A family is destroyed but that’s not criminal either.

Depends on the sentencing structure.
Maybe she gets probation. This happens quite often actually. Free until sentencing and severity of your crime. I agree with you that it shouldn't be that way however.
