I think you're overly sensitive and 95% of the things Ken Burns produces is awesome.

The early stuff he "created" was really good. The modern stuff he "produces" (created by his daughter, her husband and a team of SJWs in his PBS camp) is very hit and miss, with a lot more misses.

The correct notion that slavery was antithetical to these brand-new, developing ideas was still being worked out. Holding that slavery was intrinsically wrong had not been debated by the great majority of even western minds, much less the slave based economies of the rest of the world, and much much less a well accepted truth.

So, far from criticizing the revolutionary war heroes for their underdeveloped notion of human rights, they should be praised for trail blazing the path to emancipation and full human dignity for all.

You posted very elegantly but I still don’t think it’s a problem to point out the hypocrisy of some of our founding fathers.

Did Jefferson pioneer some of the most individualistic, independent, and free thoughts of the time? ABSOLUTELY

Did he also have a sick relationship with Sally Hemings, a slave girl he owned, resulting in 6 children he never accepted as his own, starting when she was 15 and he was 43? ABSOLUTELY

Both can be true, we can celebrate one truth and call out the other as wrong, historical people aren’t all good or all bad.

It does sound like he'll have a little bit of shite about the Indians of Upstate NY influencing the politics of some of the founding fathers.
The Iroquois League Confederation is a legit part of American history that is legitimately American
I don't mind including that but I'm sure Burns will focus on how then white people screwed them over ignoring the fact that Indians screwed each other Particularly in the Iroquois cases that Herons, Algonquins , Mohicans and white people over

I was at a presentation he gave about the CW in 1991. He was so proud of it then. He acts ashamed of it now.

Maybe I will be wrong, but his behavior makes me wonder.

Hopefully, it's as awesome as the one that claimed white Americans were complicit in the holocaust.

Historical figures are historical because of their impact on history. That goes whether they are good or bad.

We don’t pause to consider the various minor virtues of Joseph Stalin, unless it is the stated focus, as in a biopic.

The Sally Hemmings story as you brought up, still requires more detailed background to properly gauge its probative moral significance. To go into that story in necessary detail would unintentionally diminish the significance of Jefferson’s contribution to human liberty.

It should also be noted that the story of Hemmingway IN ITS CONTEXT actually bolsters the understanding of Jefferson’s moral character, not diminish it.

Wonder how much gnashing of teeth he will do regarding those horrible founding fathers.
I will be interested to see how he tells the story of how thin the revolution really was. The median colonist played the middle and was very unwilling to commit to the revolt. The famous winter at Valley Forge where Washington and Co almost starved to death - the surrounding colonial farmers kept the British forces very comfortable and fed.

It wasn't nearly as rah rah as we've been taught. It's actually amazing that Washington was able to pull it out.

I mean, we basically debated slavery from the very beginning. Jefferson paid a slave he took with him to France because it was illegal there. Men such as Adams did not morally agree with slavery and we not silent about their thoughts.

"I have, through my whole life, held the practice of slavery in such abhorrence, that I have never owned a negro or any other slave, though I have lived for many years in times, when the practice was not disgraceful, when the best men in my vicinity thought it not inconsistent with their character, and when it has cost me thousands of dollars for the labor and subsistence of free men, which I might have saved by the purchase of negroes at times when they were very cheap." - John Adams the GOAT

He said in the interview with Rogan that he views The Revolution as very much a conflict between Loyalists and Revolutionaries rather than Great Britain vs the colonies.

TJ never fathered ANY children with Hemmings. And subsequent DNA tests verified it.

It was based on a 'rumor' started by a newspaper columnist who felt like TJ screwed him out of some money.

Of course, TJs political enemies took the rumors and ran with them.

It was revealed by DNA testing that it was very possible that Hemmings children were a result of her sexual interludes with one of TJs cousins.

The main REASON of TJs wrongful rumor of him fathering children with Hemmings was one of her sons name as 'Thomas'.

Can we get a Ken Burns documentary of the SEC?

Ken Burns covering “the south rises again: SEC from 2003-2013” would be an all time great documentary.

His politics may be far left, but his documentaries continue to be fantastic.
