Apparently just anyone can get tested now

A couple of people on facebook mentioned that they got tested for "piece of mind" because they were worried they had it. No symptoms, mind you. I swear, the attention whores are out. I think some people are hoping they test positive just for he "poor you" posts.

What piece were they missing?

Are they going to do it on a daily basis? Because a single point in time test isn't going to provide much peace of mind. No piece of mind either.

What’s the point?
As soon as you come in contact with someone asymptomatic you can catch it
Am I missing something?

Probably the same one as the OP...

I wouldn't brag about it on fb, but it will be good if people get tested even without symptoms. Will give us better data about asymptomatics and may prevent that person who didn't think they had it from visiting/interacting with vulnerable people.

Apparently, all of it.

Let's say you get tested today and it's negative.
Who's to say you won't get it a week from now?
I don't understand the need for testing if you don't have any symptoms.
What are you gaining?

In GA they are doing antibody testing for "just anyone" but the covid active infection test is still a process.
So you can go get tested and maybe find out if you have already had it or not, but to find out if you actively have it, you still can't get that one willy nilly. In GA.

Seems like you would only get peace of mind if you were tested for the antibodies, but I don't think that's what we're talking about in here. Now that I would hope I tested positive for and never even knew I had the rona

I would like to get tested and be positive so I get paid two weeks off. Not going to lie I'm a little jealous of the free vacation many are getting.

Antibody testing is the only thing we need.

In Tennessee they're encouraging everyone to get tested.

Are you sure it isn’t the antibody test? BR General has an ad floating around advertising the antibody test for $100

You are missing something.
It lets people know who are asymptomatic that they need to quarantine themselves to not spread it more.
This is not complicated guys.

If a person knows they're asymptomatic they're far less likely to go outside and spread it

There are thousands and thousands of people who will test positive who have no noticeable symptoms that will then know they need to isolate themselves to prevent further spread.
Additionally, they can contact trace who they've been around and where they've been the last couple of days and tell those people to isolate immediately and get tested.
I swear I don't know how some of you people get dressed in the morning without help.

Testing started here (Knoxville) for whomever wanted it I think on Monday, and they had to shut it down because they ran out of tests. The statement was something to the effect of greatly underestimating demand.

No.
We need both.
And we need everyone to get tested for both simultaneously at testing centers with rapid results so we can bucket them in groups.
1. Immune/recovered
2. Currently sick and infectious
3. Vulnerable
That is how we beat the shite out of this thing.
