There is a vaccine for it. I plan on getting it when I'm of age.

I had the first Shringrx vaccine in March. No reaction. I had the COVID vaccine the following month. I have been told to wait 6 months to get the final Shingrx shot. I have been fully COVID vaccinated.

Did you get the COVID vaccine?

Several close friends have told me that shingles came on like a hurricane a few weeks after their shot. One guy is now on his 5th week

Got the vaccine a few months ago. First dose was fine. After the booster my arm was sore for a day, but that’s it. Knew 3 people that had shingles and they all said it was miserable.

I had it on my right forehead and around my eye. Looked like I had been burned in a fire. Would hurt if the lights in a room were on. Would sit in a dark room just to get some relief.

It totally sucks but there is a…ahem…vaccine for it.

Saw a commercial for this the other day, but I’m pretty sure it said you have to at least be 50 to get it? I’ve heard of several people getting this just in the past few weeks.

I had a very mild case of chickenpox back in the day. Not sure what bearing it has on my chances of getting shingles or how bad it would be.

Had a very mild episode a couple years ago. I was “too young” to have it so didn’t know what it was until I went to the doctor. Only presented itself on my left arm from inner elbow to top of shoulder but it was really painful. Thankfully, I started the medicine within 24 hours and had a mild enough case that it was gone completely within 5 days.

Had shingles twice is was awful caught early enough that taking meds reduced complications like ongoing neuropathic pain. Post 1st dose COVID vaccine within 6 hours felt like shingles were coming on all over again then the next day it was fine. After second dose COVID it happened again. I had had 1 dose of Shingrix on board too.

Only a mild case on the right side of my chest, 2-3 weeks of itchiness, nothing bad. Had the shot, year went by, had the second shot, 6 weeks after the Chinese virus shot, more soreness with the second shot. Talk to a MD or your pharmacist about the frequency of the shingles shot. As noted here, it can get really bad, especially if it gets near the eyes. Get the shot.

Are you taking Valtrex? It might help. It is used for cold sores and fever blisters, which are a herpes virus, like shingles.

Caught it in my late 20’s, thankfully I went to doctor pretty much ASAP and got Valtrex going before it got too bad. It was a b*tch for me but still a walk in the park compared to others experiences with it.

I definitely plan to get the shot. I am too afraid of a full shingles episode to not get it.

My husband got them when he was about 24/25

They’re painful and awful

My grandma had them in her 80s and she did not complain about anything - but she did about that

This is not a made up story. I got it when I was 18 up in Oxford. I realized it when I was cutting the grass. My arse crack kept itching. Thought it was just some grass or dust irritating it and didn’t think anything else of it. After getting out of the shower I realized it was a rash. Whatever, I was 18 at college didn’t really care… couple of days later (and some tinactin) I started to see it getting worse. Went to the campus medical site. The doctor took a look and then called every single doctor in that building to come look at it. I had shingles in my arse crack, running up one side of my spine. They were fascinated, I was embarrassed as hell having like 7 doctors staring at my a-hole.

Good times.

I am finishing my 5th day on Valtrex. Got on it less than 24 hrs after the 1st red spot showed up. Slowed the spread not the pain. Left side torso, stomach to backbone.

I got it about 6 years ago. In addition to filling my antiviral, the pharmacist told me to buy milk of magnesia and put it in the fridge. He said to take cold showers and dab the milk of magnesia on to the rash spots with cotton swabs. It worked enough to at least allow me to sleep for 3 or 4 hours at a time.
