Most rescues know this. The main thing they are looking for is that the dog will get the attention & exercise it needs, not be in a kennel all day / night.

There is a lot of effort and time associated with the dogs we adopt out. We just want the best for both parties. If you don't have time for me, then you don't have time for my foster dog.

Yep. I was turned down by an adoption agency when I told them they couldn't contact my apartment landlord. They wanted my employment history and everything, it was bananas.
When I told them I work from home around 50% of the time, they kept badgering me about the other 50%. I learned my lesson, next time I go to a rescue I'm just going to lie my arse off.

Friends of the Animals in BR is a great foster home that does not require in home visits. They do have reference checks though.

The humane society or like minded ones are the places to go, these places like puppy rescue, or PAWs aren't very good for the animals.
my wife has worked in animal shelters for a long time. And we have volunteered there for years.
i could expand on why they are better, but most people don't care.
City shelters are ok. The Baton Rouge shelter is absolute shite, but that isn't really their fault.

I do have time for it, just seems a little excessive. I mean I'm trying to give the animal a better life. Don't think it should be that hard to do

Why wouldn't you let them? Of course they turned you down . They want to make sure your apartment allows pets/ doesn't have breed or weight restrictions.

sure places like PAWS are no kill. But there is only a finite demand for adoptable dogs. when they keep a dog for years (which they will), it just means that they are keeping a dog that is not adoptable from being put in it. It goes to the local city shelter and is killed.
Fewer dogs would be killed if they off loaded dogs that are not adoptable.
Its a big argument in the animal shelter community.

I adopted before, one of the best experiences in my life, they wanted a lot, wanted us to come back in a day to make sure, or to test if our dogs get along again, etc. My gf at the time looked at the lady and said, look we are leaving here with a dog today, and I want this one. That did it.

Yes but I've also seen horror stories as well.
Some dog fighting rings go out there and adopt rescues or get lost pets off of craigs list.
Had one dude adopt a dog I rescued. I took it back a year later. Poor thing was in bad shape, he never took her to the vet and lied and said that he had. He lied about pretty much everything. That is what you are hoping to prevent with the rules and home visits.

I have a dog that I got from a girl who got her... then 2 months later realized that her not being home for 12+ every day wasn't the best schedule for taking care of a dog.. But as for as adopting, I have not, but my mom lives by one of those ladies who takes in all types of dogs and on the weekend goes to places like Petsmart so people can adopt them.. And when I go to my mom's (sometimes its several months between visits), there are a lot of the sames dogs still at the woman's house.. In other words, most dogs that she gets do not get adopted.

It's generally only difficult if you rent. The thing that annoys me is that they have dogs in there but can't be adopted for a month.

To get into more detail about the woman I was referring to, her and her sister both take in dogs and does the whole adoption thing. Evidently her sister is the one who does most of the adoption part and she is a complete bitch when it comes to someone adopting the dogs.
Someone I know was looking to adopt a puppy for his kids and he gave this woman a call. She told him the next few weeks she had something going on so she would not be able to go put the dogs up for adoption so he asked if there was a chance he could come by and adopt the dog from her (instead of waiting several weeks) and the women started telling him it sounds like he was trying to get the dog for free and that she had to get shots for the puppies and that she would not feel safe giving him dog not knowing whether or not he would ever bring the dog to a vet, etc.. So I think some of those people can be a little unhinged,

I adopted a dog from the animal shelter. The only thing I had to do was pay $35 and they let me take him. I then had to provide proof I brought him to the vet and had him fixed, but that was it.

I've adopted my last 2 from my vet. It's been no hassle at all
