Anyone long for the days when we knew less about impending weather?

Remember the good old days when the weather got bad and everybody just dealt with it? We have too much information these days and not all of it is valid. My kids miss more school for no reason and cancelling Mardi Gras today makes no sense. Thanks to all the attorneys out there for their contribution to our pansy arse society.

old folk knew what the weather was going to be but didn't act like pussies

No it's awesome knowing where a hurricane will track more than 24 hours out

those old almanacs were pretty good prognosticators

I am sure the people from 1957 in Cameron wish they knew about Hurricane Audrey with more of an advance

Yeah man me too. I wish we had no idea a hurricane was coming when I’m fishing in Grand Isle and that it’d totally catch us off guard. Sounds like a blast.

Yeah, nobody had more fun than those lucky folks that were in the Florida Keys when the hurricane hit in 1935

I was walking yesterday and the winds were cranking out of the south. Made me think about how even back in the 1800s in south Louisiana if the winds were ripping out of the south in the spring you knew you were going to get smoked by some tstms in a day or two from repeated experience.
Spring
Winds ripping out of the south
tstms
cold front
cooler for a couple of days

Remember you are talking to a bunch of forever online people and many have an affinity for weather threads.

That and I still don't understand bread and milk for a storm.
And running out and buying toilet paper. Just raid the goodwill box and cut the underoos into rags. Putting back in the goodwill box afterwards is a personal choice I don't recommend.

Some people actually like to do things outdoors and some things take a bit of planning. Do you really wan't to plan a boil and invite a bunch of people over not knowing it is going to be pouring rain and blowing 60mph gusts all day on the day you are planning?
Stupid people have a lot of problems dealing with information overload, they don't have the bandwidth, and they have a hard time prioritizing the incoming data. More data is never a problem for intelligent people.

I know everyone is giving you crap and bringing up hurricanes before the 1950’s as proof but I get what you saying.
You talking mid 70’s through mid 90’s when people didn’t freak out every time a weather system came through the area.
We knew fricking hurricanes were coming then because I used to chart them on my paper hurricane map at home.

No.
I miss the days when I didn’t need to give a shite about the weather.

Nope. I plan my snake catchin’ trips based on the forecast. Still went to the Everglades last week even though it was too cool. But still got 60 snakes.

Today might be dangerous. The air on my skin is switching between hot and cold.
