Hell no. I’m so glad I don’t live there.

I don't feel guilty, just wish I got back there more often. My family doesn't live there anymore so I rarely go back.

This didn’t use to be the situation, but it has gotten increasingly more so in recent years. My folks are in their 70’s and my dad’s health is not great. My last grandparent passed away 3 years ago. My sister and her husband relocated from Atlanta to NOLA last year and my brother and his family are considering a similar move. If they do, I’ll be the only child not living within an hour of my home town. To further complicate matters, my fiancée is from NOLA and her family has been asking her if we intend to return to Louisiana after we get married in the spring.

No. Drove through my old neighborhood in New Orleans yesterday after the game and it has become a total shithole. Was a clean decent area until the late 1990s. Now, all homes in some visible form of disrepair to varying degrees, mismatched paint, lawns taken over by dollar weed, overgrown "trees" that are actually weeds never cut, tackily planted gardens here and there, streets in poor shape, just disgusting.

All of these folks talking about NOLA being in some sort of real estate renaissance are only considering about 30% of the city, because it's a mess everywhere else.

God no. Iberville Parish as a whole is a nightmare, much less my hometown

Everyone should live in at least 2 different places other than their hometown or region for at least 1 or 2 years. If your hometown is really worthwhile you can always go back and you will appreciate it more. If your hometown is not worth a damn you will figure it out and be glad you moved on.

I completely understand. I'm from Vicksburg. I would have ERDC at the Corp though.

Nope. Raleigh kicks arse, but my job frequently relocates me across the country and I love exploring new areas both big and small. That’s actually my tie to BR; job brought me there for a year. Now up in VA Beach and loving it up here. So many fine arse women that come up here to live at the beach.

Anyways, hell no. And honestly, I think my parents would think I’m a little bit of a loser if I didn’t pick up and go do something with myself. You can always circle back and move home, but go enjoy somewhere else for a bit and laugh at the losers who never moved away from their hometown and regret it immensely.

You old hood must be the opposite of so many that I notice. The 90's were the low point. It's hard to drive around and not notice places that have been on a huge upswing with new construction and major renovations.

I grew up in Boise, and haven't lived their since going to LSU. I'm in Dallas now. Not a single moment where I want to move back, most of my friends have moved to different cities in the Northwest for better job opportunities.

Isn't Boise one of the faster growing areas in the country?

I think everyone feels some kind of attachment to the place in which they grew up.

people rip on their hometowns and yet love the home towns of others that do the same bitching

Just a few posts above this one. I'd rather live in Boise than Dallas

I moved away 18 months ago and I’m returning for the first time next month. I’m interested to see how things have changed for the better and worse. My mom was the only one who gave us Schitt when we left and I’m sure she will give us more when we go. I look forward to seeing old neighbors and friends for a few days.

I don’t fewl guilty at all.

Every time I visit my home town I thank god that I got out.

And I am very close to my family. I just can’t imagine a hell worse than having to live in my hometown.

This is exactly the situation I'm in. Glad someone could relate, but also glad that this doesn't seem to be the common experience

My friends and family do the same but I don’t feel one bit of guilt.

Once I left and saw what else was out there I just can’t imagjnf ever living there again.
