I have an old M1xx military trailer with a RTT and awning. On the trailer, I have propane, tankless hot water heater, 60 gallons of water, water pump, 4 yellow top optima battery bank, 3 solar panels and a Honda 2000i just in case there’s not enough sun to top off the batteries. I also carry a small 110 AC window unit for summer camping.

I can’t find any pictures right now. I’ll update my post when I do.

I have some friends that do this and love it. The issue is costs, and maintaining a 4x4 vehicle just gets expensive as all hell, especially if you cannot act as your own mechanic.

I want to do a trip and have a Jeep, but right now it's such a pain in the arse to find groups willing to help a newbie learn to off road.

I plan on getting a camper shell and some top bars for my Tacoma soon

will probably also get a Decked system

I'm the only male in my house and I generally take at least 1 week long trip by myself a year (mostly for hunting), so I want something a little more comfortable than sleeping on the ground these days, as I am getting older

We’ve built a couple of “overland” (I hate that word as it oozes douch-iness) setups, in order:

1.) Not really a “build” but we stayed in my JKU for 2 months straight 3 years ago traveling from national park to national park sleeping on BLM land. We were able to fit a full size mattress in it and cooked, showered, everything outside. Traveled 22 states and 11 national parks that way. 12v heated blanket and a small Coleman cooktop stove and we thought we absolutely had it made and were living the dream LOL.

2.) I built a 5x8 squaredrop after that and we towed it all over the country with the same Jeep. 2x3 aluminum frame, timbren axle-less suspension, lock n roll extended hitch so I could swing open the back gate without unhitching. 35s that matched the Jeep and fully insulated with a self contained kitchen in the back hatch.

3.) Bought and fully gutted to the sub floor a Class C 29’ This was the most practical for us to work out of full time and live with our two dogs in it but it was just too big. No lift but put 32” KO2s on it. I loved it but it just didn’t suit our needs honestly. It was really tough to boondock something that large in remote areas. We only kept It about 4 months but put 5,500 miles on it in that time and sold it for well over double what we had in it total so no regrets.

4.) Currently building a 2018 Transit Extended High Top. Have a 2.5” lift on it and 215/85s (it’s DRW). It’s currently fully insulated with 2” of Polyiso on everything, insulated and heated floors. Currently building our shower and roughing in the remaining electrical. I’ve got 6 235ah 6vs in it with 600 watts of solar on the roof. Two 45 gallon freshwater tanks, two 20 gallon gray with no black (cassette toilet in the shower). Queen size bed. Building this one to keep awhile.

My wife and I both work in fully remote IT roles so we’ve had a fantastic mobile wifi setup we’ve used over the past 2 years if anyone needs any details or help there. We’ve gone through a couple “overland” vehicles over the past two years but it’s a hobby we enjoy. We’ve spent right around 16 out of the last 24 months working and living out of one of the above and traveling full time. We love it.

Let’s party. I don’t do any bull shite like Carnage Canyon in a stock f150 (not that I could), but I do take on roads that require patients and 4wd.

We are getting into the overlanding stuff recently. We are still primitive tent camping though. Last kid moved out 6 months ago. So my wife and I are looking into an off-road trailer camper. I think we’re gonna go with an Opus! Did a five day Ozark trip last month.

You are getting old now. Way back in the day camping/hunting for a week without a shower was nothing.

Checkout joolca hottap. Costs 400 but it looks nice. It's for more than a shower.

I'm going to get one for my "overland" vehicle. feels funny saying that.

I think of primitive camping as a hike in scenario.

That's backpacking. You can certainly primitive car camp.
