They said multiple times including a visit there, that only 33% went through their process holistically. They said 66% were auto admits. Yes see, on your post they accepted 21,000 out of 35,000 roughly. 14,000 of the 21,000 were auto admits so that means 2/3 were auto admits.
I worded mine wrong, 2/3 of the kids accepted are auto admits. So their acceptance rate is deceiving.

It’s not just ROTC. A&M is one of six senior military colleges in the US. Not an academy, but more than an extracurricular activity.

Ok, young man, but the argument was that A&M had higher admission rates because it's hamstrung by automatic admissions.
UT Austin, while only having to take the top 6 percent of Texas high school grad applicants, must take automatically admit 75 percent of in-state freshman applicants, all while having 15,000 more applications per year (50k for UT Austin, 35k for A&M).
In other words, if you aren't automatically admitted, it's much easier to gain admission to A&M than it is to UT Austin.
That is the only explanation for a 24 percent difference in admission rates (turns out A&M is down to 60 percent -- after being as high as 77 percent -- with UT Austin at 36 percent).
Another indicator of easier admission to A&M is the fact that it has a larger student body with substantially fewer applications, compared to UT Austin.

Well yes, but this wasn’t the argument. Of course Texas is even harder to get into than A&M, I wasn’t arguing that at all. Only way for auto admit to UT is the top 6% compared to A&M’s top 10%, plus 25% and the test scores like we said. The A&M acceptance rate is higher because of auto admits absolutley, but Texas is still much harder to get into. I think we are agreeing here but maybe we misunderstood each other.

Ok, perhaps we are talking past each other. I'm a UT Austin graduate, if you couldn't tell, but my brother went to A&M and it's a great school that has graduated many fine people.

My numbers are available online and are Fall 2018, I believe. It went from 7 to 6 percent.

One of the few serious answers here—a night with the corps is a great way for him to see if he likes it.
For my son, he found them too cult-like, you know, “TAMU is the greatest place south of Heaven”. “Why would anyone not go to TAMU?”
He visited LSU but they were too disorganized. Looked into Citadel and chose University of North Georgia. They graduate more cadets into the real Army than A&M. (More Aggies go into TX Nat’l Guard than regular Army) and the college has14,000 students, not 50,000, so it had a more personal vibe.
For my son, he found them too cult-like, you know, “TAMU is the greatest place south of Heaven”. “Why would anyone not go to TAMU?”
