We are looking to change out two rooms that have carpet to laminate wood flooring that will match the rest of the house. We found the closest match at home depot for $1.59 a sqft, they had an ad next to it that they would install it for .89¢ a sqft.

So I was wondering if anyone has ever used home depot to do this kind of install and what kind of experience did you have?

so less than $300 labor job, wouldn't overthink and just roll with it. tough to get contractor's attention with small jobs.

Not flooring, but had them install one of those sheds they sell. They had a local contractor come out, they showed up in one of their business trucks. I had no complaints, and would guess they do the same for flooring installs.

they use contract installers, sort of hit or miss, I've had carpet installed through HD, no issues

might cruise new residential construction sites for some Messcan floor guys, they're usually pretty good

Find out who Home Depot subs the work out to and then approach that contractor for a cheaper price.

I used a Home Depot install for my countertops. They have contractors on file and just roll it through whoever is available on the list. The crew for my countertops did a very good job. No complaints at all.

Did they remove the carpet as well? I would assume you have to pay extra for that Or do yourself.

I had a homeowner insist I use Home Depot for their cabinet install. It was a nightmare. The only way I could communicate with anyone was to drive up there and talk to someone. That'd usually kill about an hour and a half every time. That and they don't give a shite about you.

Home Depot will drop a shitty contractor with a quickness. Because of that, most of the contractors they keep on file are legit.

i pulled it out and left it in a pile outside. they hauled it off no charge.

now the crappy tile that they replaced with hardwood was a little more work. i spent about 8 hours busting up tile and scraping. they came in and did 2x as much work as i did in 30 minutes with the right equipment.

Bonus in using them is their company, being who they are, would not dodge your calls and would be very willing to make something right in the event the installation sucks.

Like lots have said, they just contract out to local guys to do the work and then tack on their markup. That being said, I can't see anyone giving you a better price than $0.89/sf unless you hire a guy in their parking lot. But then you have nothing to fall back on if work quality is bad. Plus, you will probably have to hire an interpreter.

I hate home depot though.

They sub contract it out so you could just find a contractor.

I've had them install carpet. Super easy and the install company out of NO is awesome with scheduling and showing up. Warranty is great too.
