install it for .89¢ a sqft
Thats CHEAP for laminate install. Find out whats included for that $0.89 though because they might nickel and dime you on everything else (moving furniture, removal of old carpet, haul away trash, installing pad, install 1/4 round, etc).

That's how they get you, the 1/4 round. We had Home Depot give a quote for pergo flooring in bedroom. SF price for the floor was cheap but they wanted to charge almost as much to do the 1/4 round. Also the padding/underlayment is way overpriced too.
In the end you get a quote that is about the same as anyone else. They just suck you in with the eye poppingly low SF price.

Underlayment will cost.25-.65 sq ft for material. Don't buy the cheap stuff.

We did exactly that, removed the carpet in Den and Foyer ourselves, then had them put down laminate wood flooring. Was 2 guys, main and helper. They said our concrete was not that good and not level so charged extra $500 to put a layer of concrete on top to make it even and smooth. I am glad we did it to be sure no cracks and floor was even. On floors, he even cut it real close around fireplace so we would not have to use that awful molding around that. Everything fine so far with new wood floor, had it about a year now.

Thanks everyone for the opinions. Yea they are trying to nickel and dime with the molding stuff and removing carpet but we can do that ourselves. I'm not sure yet if they are going to have to level the floor, they are coming to measure Tuesday.

I wouldn't do it. With Trump as president HD best labor is about to be sent home

All Home Depot installs are handled through a company called Romanoff. They essentially just sub out local guys who work for them.
We have had work performed by them, with B work results. However, due to issues with timing, etc. I can realize that ultimately these install guys are overworked.
I would probably use them again, but I would also not expect an A+ effort.
