we have a 2017 3.5 engine. just hit 122k miles and plan on running it to 200k miles. No issues other than a leaky sunroof seal once. Very dependable suv in my opnion.

Go with Toyota/Lexus products.

Teenage girl hit me from behind in my Jeep with an Explorer. That is the extent of my knowledge on Explorers.

Still own a 2006 ford explorer.
I still use it for hauling things around.Has about 155k miles on it. I WFH so it just sits in the driveway 99% of the time but still runs fine. We use the other SUV for family trips. I'm not buying anything right now at these prices. From my experience the explorer has a pretty good track record.

1997, XLT, 5.0 with the tow package. It had a poorly designed transmission mount. The guy at the transmission shop said he replaced a lot of the mounts. It was aboot $100 to replace.
It went aboot 250,000 miles, then a ton of minor things seemed to happen overnight.
I never even had to replace the starter, alternator, any A/C components, nothing.

We have a '21 Explorer, no complaints at all. Lots of room in it and the ride is pretty good.

Ford Explorers + Firestone tires offer excitement

They are pretty good vehicles but I would not buy a new one. Ford is eliminating AM radio and I like to listen to conservative talk radio on my long commute to work.

Believe they reversed on that decision.

I've had a few. Latest one I'll sell you cheap, 2008 Eddie Bauer. Dark blue over tan. Makes you wanna put on some khaki's and head to the country club.
Everything still works great, the V8 still pulls strong. Bought it at wholesale 8-9 years ago (it was a CarMax car) w a little over 100k miles, now has 218k miles. Never any issues. Even my 16yo wanted to keep it over the hand-me-down Accord he's getting. I hate to sell it, but after adding the 16yo male to our insurance, it's the wise thing to do.
OT Special Offer: $3,500.
Then of course, after all the testamonials from people that say they have no issues with Explorers, some prick says "buy Toyota/Lexus"...phuck off dude.

Had a 2003 Explorer for about 15 years. Durable vehicle, I think it got to about 150,000 miles before we sold it, just had an opportunity to get something newer.

We bought a 2022 platinum in Feb.
It's fast and smooth and great for long trips.
B&O labeled stereo is lackluster.
Cooled seats are great.
AWD twin turbo 6 banger supposedly 400HP but seams okay with regular gas.
Steering system is failing with power assist. Two roadside assist calls. Dealer giving the standard company line "..we can't replicate the problem so we can't fix it" bullshite.
I'm sure Ford is trying to weasel out of repairing it.
2300 miles on it and purchased new.
It can be steered when in motion but not very easily sitting still.
We're about to invoke the Lemons law process and ditch the thing if they don't fix it.

2015 and newer might have to watch out for water pump leaks at higher mileage. They sit behind the timing cover so be prepared to shell out some dough if yours starts leaking. Other than that, seem like a fairly reliable vehicle.

They are an excellent vehicle and very reliable.
I would stay away from the smaller 4 cylinder turbo engines. They slightly lack the power needed for that size vehicle.

I have a 2002. Bought it used in 2004 with 22k miles.
It presently has 186k with very few service issues. Runs great and has lots of room. It is our second car and I mainly use it to pull my boat along with some minimum driving. Plan to keep it for as long as possible.

I have had both.
Buick Enclave is a much better SUV.
Much quieter and nicer interior.

I drive a 2012 with the 3.5 v6 with 150k miles.
Oil pressure sensor at 145k.
Ford sync Module went out, which controls the touch screen/radio/heated seats at 100k.
The automatic liftgate stopped working recently.
Overall been a good ride. Quick enough when it needs to be and pulls my small bass tracker well.

I had one years ago. Think it was a 2008. It was a complete piece of shite. Tranny went out at about 65K miles just after warranty ran out. Overheated several times as well. Water pump went out. Something else cracked and leaked coolant all over. This was all under 80K miles. Will never buy a Ford again.
