Well maybe if you've witnessed first hand what others have gone through and were willing to do for the right to cast a vote. The same vote that most here take for granted and can't be bothered enough to go to the polling station within a couple miles of their home without any fear of violence towards them. You would have a greater appreciation for and not be complacent in carrying out your civic duties such jury duty and voting.

quote:

Introduction The 1997 Bosnia-Herzegovina Municipal Elections At thousands of polling stations, citizens lined up to vote for leaders who they hope will build a peaceful and prosperous future for them. Along with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the International Police Task Force, among others, you brought hope to this region of the Balkans - a region which has known only hardship and strife in this decade. You helped the civil implementation process take root in the daily lives of the people who have suffered the most. With free and fair elections, the Dayton Peace Agreement's ultimate goals for Bosnia-Herzegovina will have moved a step closer to reality. Thank you. -- General Eric K. Shinseki, Commander, SFOR

I actually served on a trial earlier this year. I've always been excused, but they decided to keep me this time despite some of my answers. It turned out to be pretty cool being part of a trial.

I was notified to show up.

I negotiated for a later date because of call schedule.

The later date arrived.
I called the number they sent me each morning and was told not to report.

I have not been called since.

So one time for one week in the almost 20 years I’ve lived here.

My wife actually was called and served on a criminal case.

Tell them that you are not prejudiced but you think everyone is guilty of something

Most places in Louisiana don’t send it certified mail. You didn’t get your notice.

I just said I moved to a different parish and got out of it.

I did move. But I didn’t have to show proof.

Do they actually enforce penalty if ppl miss it ? TIA

When I was in college, I was registered to vote in one county, but lived in another. I got jury duty in the county I no longer lived in. I didn’t go because I was not a resident. I went on spring break and while I was gone, the sheriff showed up at my parent’s house to arrest me.

Was living out of state for grad school. Left my parents as my address. Apparently I got summoned and didn't know it.

They showed up at my parents to try to arrest me

Many state courts will ignore skippers.

Federal court has been known to call and politely tell you to please get your arse to the courthouse, and if you ignore that, a marshal with handcuffs shows up to give you a ride to an arse chewing.

You will get a bench warrant if you miss it. Don’t miss it.

Depends on jurisdiction. Some areas are stricter than others. It is technically a crime to ditch. You can be held in contempt of court, especially if you make it a habit.

Also dont frick with the feds. If you get a federal summons, you better show up.

I have been called twice. The first time I was the last potential juror who was struck. The second time I explained by email why I should be exempt and didn't even have to show up.

How would you like to be judged by 12 people who are too stupid to get out of jury duty.

I've done it once. Can't say I miss it at all.
