Greatest sport, you can’t blame anyone if you get your arse kicked no one dropped a ball missed a block. Every kid should participate in individual sports it’s all on him he wins or he looses, no team crap. Get him in some camps in the summer preferably up north, mid west. It really is a great sport where intelligence technique can beat strength.

Along with the ringworm and cauliflower ear, you can expect broken ribs and collarbone and strained ligaments lol. However if he sticks with it he’ll also develop incredible mental and physical toughness, solid work ethic, and the ability to defend himself against the majority of the populace. We have wrestlers who train with us and their attitude and gas tanks are second to none. They don’t phone it in during training like some of us bjj guys lol. They come to scrap.

Cool thing about starting him at 8 is he can begin to develop proper technique early and that will payoff down the road if he sticks with it.

You in lake Charles or Sulphur? Wrestling at that age was the first time I remember going to Poche Town. Kyle Street Gym.

Literally the neighborhood I grew up in. Can’t tell you how much baseball we played on that field in the summers.

My parents still live close, but the area closer to DS Perkins and all that has gone to complete shite. Sad to see.

Lake Charles.

although this is true... the big wrestlers i grew up with aren't doing too well in life. most of them are either in and out of jail or prison guards.

Greatest sport for building a work ethic and learning life is tough and in order to survive you need to get tougher. We need more wrestling in life, not less.

Wrestling really was awesome u didn’t have to make the team like in basketball ball, anyone was welcome however like some said the conditioning would root out the weak. Think I went 1-9 my first season maybe 2-8 second and last but yeah only the tuff survive but I liked it so much because of my coaches one was my math teacher and the head coach was my metals shop teacher.

Ha I now that I’m thinking bout it I remember him telling me I gave you a 49/50 instead of a 45/50 on your napkin holder because u wrestle.
My mom still uses it as a bill holder to this day.

This.

I loved what wrestling taught. When that guy blows the whistle, you either wrestle or get wrestled. It was little Johnny’s fault at 1st base. It wasn’t little Bobby’s fault at QB. It was YOU and the opponent.

Not many wrestling gyms/schools in Louisiana, especially at that age. There’s a lot of Jiu Jitsu gyms though, so kids start grappling there. It’s great for kids. Glad he likes it. I wish I had started wrestling or Jiu Jitsu when I was a kid, but that wasn’t an option

My son used to. Started when he was almost 5 and did it for about 4 years. It taught him to work hard and grind.
Every boy should wrestle for a year or two at least.

This x 1000.

Not to mention wrestling isn’t subjective like soccer or football. You can debate all day who’s a better WR or OL and why the coaches kid shouldn’t start.
You think you’re a better wrestler then little Johnny well get out on the mat and let’s see.

My oldest started at about the sane age as yours. He's 17 now and is a junior in high school. He loves it and it has helped him grow as a person tremendously. My younger son started a little younger and will be in high school next year. Does your son practice at colt or junior storm?
