Demerol pills. 30 minutes and you are out like a light

Melatonin works for me as well. The dreams are close to lucid. Cool if they are pleasant…fricking catastrophe if a nightmare.

Best thing that helps me sleep is keeping my bedroom cold. I have a portable AC that I use every night. The noise plus the cold temps knock me out and keep me asleep.

I take Trazadone and a OTC sleep pill from Costco. Really doesn't give me what I wanted. I'm retired and for over 30 years I started work at 2am. Most every night I wake up between 12 & 1. I think my internal clock is still screwed up.

Eat a snack before bed 830/9ish. Protein and fat. May help.

Try magnesium glycinate or three ate before bed with a pinch of salt in some water.
ETA: practice box breathing. Works wonders. Also after waking up try taking another pinch of salt with a sip of water. Your brain could be craving minerals.

Im not great at math- but that means on the occasion when you are able to sleep thru the night, or wake up to pee then go back to sleep- you get over 9 hours of sleep ?! That sounds frickin amazing, even if it only occurs once in a a while.. my body wont let me sleep for 9 hours, no matter how much i try.. would love to experience that tbh

1/2 Ambien pill, 2 melatonin pills, one delta 8 and a muscle relaxer works sometimes. My insomnia is unreal when it hits

Echoing a lot of others and adding a few things. I struggled with this recently for about 18 months as well.
Everything below helped me piece the puzzle together. All of these things are net positives in your life in and of them selves, but really powerful when stacked together.
-Ice cold room when sleeping - I keep my downstairs on 65 at night
-Blackout curtains & minimal to zero light of any kind. your room should be pitch black
-Magnesium glycinate to relax your body/muscles
-Melatonin to slow down your brain & induce tiredness (add to regiment last if everything else fails)
-Exercise / movement during the day
-Eat healthy, real food and put some distance between dinner and when you go to sleep.
-Go to bed and wake up around the same time
-Sunlight
-Vitamin D
CBD / Delta 8 gummies as a last resort if the melatonin and everything else doesn't work. Just until you get sorted with the peripheral things listed above unless you like smoking / being high. Whatever works for you.
As soon as you wake up, drink a 20 oz water to rehydrate. Add hydration salt if available for minerals.
Do what you can to get this addressed as quickly as possible. Prolonged / extended sleep deprivation will wreck your mental health & cognitive functions. As you know - The lack of energy from living in a constant state of exhaustion bleeds over into your marriage, kids, relationships, work, etc.
Good luck - rooting for you

Ambien is the devil.. used to take it, i never did the ‘nighttime cooking a meal and eating it’ thing you hear about, or the ‘i drove to the store in the middle of the night and couldnt remember it’ thing.. but it fricked with my short-term memory like you would not believe, and i was only in my 30s… melatonin alone has never worked for me, and i have tried many times , and in many forms… only thing that works for me is Unisom sleeptabs (NOT the sleepgels, big difference).. as well as an herbal concoction i get from Amazon that has melatonin in it, but also valerian , ashwaganda, passionflower, l theanine, magnesium and a bunch of other crap.. not sure what in it works for me, or maybe just the combo- but it knocks me out .. Unisom helps me go back to sleep when i wake at 3am to pee.. Anyone still talking about “sleep hygiene”- well, i mean i guess that could work for some people.. as for me, it’s been like 20 years since i looked at a screen before bed, or had caffiene after lunch, or didnt have my AC set low at bedtime, or any other basic shite like that.. bottom line is some people have racing minds and stress can make it difficult to “turn off” your brain, and some people just need help with that .. just like other people need help with other things, like quitting drinking , or losing weight, or stopping smoking or whatever .. we are all wired differently .

Work your arse off with extreme physical activity, relentlessly, all day. You will sleep like a baby.

Lay down, close your eyes, and focus only on the sound of your breathing.
You will want to thank me in the morning.

I am sure this is not the case for you, but what you are describing sounds like the life of a drinker. Once the alcohol wears off they wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety. People often say a few beers or mixed drinks puts them to sleep, but it results in terrible sleep. To go to sleep and be able to stay asleep, stop drinking.
Zepbound is leading tonight loss, which always leads to better sleep, so they should not be correlated to poor sleep.
Other than cutting or completely removing alcohol consumption, exercise, even just walking 10k steps, and moderating sugar in the evenings will go a long way.

Exercise doesn't work for me. I work 12 hrs on a normal day and sometimes 16 to 20 hrs. I still have a hard time sleeping. I'm trying to go to sleep right now, have to be up at 6. I wish I could smoke weed, the first day of my retirement I will.

A couple of these have been briefly mentioned, but here are my tips:
1) During the evening drink a hot drink consisting of 1-2 tsp. turmeric (kurkuma), 1/2 tsp. black pepper, 1 tsp. olive oil, a healthy portion of honey, hot water, and milk. Not only is it super healthy, but it helps with falling asleep/sleeping through the night. I've noticed a considerable improvement since I started this regimen.
2) Excercise before going to bed. Whether it's push-ups, etc., light yoga, whatever, move your body.
3) Before falling asleep, try meditation/prayer. Concentrate on your breath and let intruding thoughts fall away. This is very effective and doesn't require any kind of religious belief. Pray for someone; positive thoughts are more powerful than you think and help yourself as well as those around you.
I'm a recovering alcoholic and know all about sleepless nights. The whole "dark night of the soul" thing. I try to avoid as many pharma products as humanly possible and have found that the above really works (at least for me). Good luck and sleep well!
