"What do you mean you don't like this shirt? You're mother bought it for me"

That always works. Or insert kids name.

Or diss your wife's shoes. They hate that and it throws them off.

I don't know about op but I prefer collared shorts and ssbd better than long sleeve in the heat.
And birddogs are weird.

Nope, I solved that problem years ago, I told my wife if she wanted me to dress a certain way then she would have to match my outfits up and put them together in the closet. Before I retired, it had gotten to where she would pick out slacks, a shirt, a tie, and a sport coat for my work clothes and she would put it all on hangers together in the closet. She kept 14 days of clothes ready to go

Holy shite this guy married the wife from “It’s a Wonderful Life”

short sleeved suit jacket.

There’s an older attorney in Baton Rouge who is known for wearing that.

That line between iconoclast and stupid...

He ran right through it like a drunk in a rented Lamborghini.

If you are going the "it's too damn hot" route go with a seersucker jacket and shorts with a Panama or straw skimmer hat. Don't put your tailor in the position of not wanting to put his label in what you are wearing. At least then you will look like you popped out of a gentile Southern coastal town and not Larry the Cable Guy going to his cousins wedding in Barney Georgia.

Thanks for the ETA.

Your wife is retarded.

Done properly, Birddogs and a Polo are fashionably equivalent to Peter Millar shorts and a Short Sleeve Button Down.

Sincerely,
The Gayest Straight Guy on Here
-according to all the ladies I work with

ETA from me- I do think the Polo brand has become cheap- but still acceptable. If your wife (and Holy Baby Jesus she better be hot for this kind of BS) thinks it’s trashy get your polos from Brooks Brothers. IMO there isn’t a SSBD that can compete with a Brooks Brothers polo.

Never understood why this pisses off the metrosexuals the way it does.

Yes. I'm normally dressed like Steve Irwin because it's comfortable and practical. She hates it.

Just show up to a dinner date wearing oversized triple pleaeted khaki shorts, an outlet Polo tucked in to your high waited shorts, and your croakies with you Costas and Crocs with black dress socks. You will fit right in if you live in Baton Rouge.

In my book dressing to impress your wife is never a bad call.

In my book, if my wife thinks that I have to look a certain way to impress, then I've got more problems than not wearing oxford cloth short sleeve button downs.

If this is your biggest fights, you're newly married and don't have kids.

I wish my wife would pick out my outfits. This is definitely a battle I would not choose

Once my wife and I were going to dinner with my 23 year old (30 now) daughter. My wife told me I had to change, so I appealed to my daughter. She said, and I’ll never forget, “It depends on what look you’re going for, dad. If you’re going for the old-guy-who-doesn’t-care look you’re doing fine.” I changed.

If this hasn't already been brought up yet, but the OP is a victim of his wife watching too many Hallmark movies.
Every "good" guy in those movies either is wearing a coat and tie or at the very least has a nice sweater and scarf combination going.
