Hell youre describing me. But I still love the city. I’m that guy who sits at Pat O’s (yes I have a hurricane) but I’m looking around thinking “this was a theater?” Or I’m drinking in Cat Meow courtyard fascinated by the “storage closets” behind the beer tubs that were probably slave quarters.
Old history will always fascinate me. I’m always thinking “what was this place? Who lived here?”

You mouth breathers laughing about the idea of Nola being one of the best restaurant and bar cities in the country are fcking clueless.
Every food blog, magazine, or list maker worth a damn has them somewhere between 3 and 5.
And based on per capita, it's 1 by a long shot.
I know it doesn't mean anything to the jack and coke drinkers to have real bars, but it's pretty nice to have those places in your city if you appreciate them.

I live in Carrollton. I love it. Sure, it’s expensive, but we have a great sidewalk community that’s relatively safe. Most of the crime in the city is between people in the hood who are beefing with each other, or attacks on tourist types who foolishly wander into bad areas at bad times.
I’m not minimizing either situation and I support all efforts to improve both issues, but I don’t feel any less safe than my family in South Baton Rouge or downtown San Francisco, for example.

So this explains why for five years at least now it's the #1 wedding destination city in the country.
Has hosted more super bowls than anyone else.
Is always in the running for national championship games for NCAA football and basetball games/tourneys.
Host numerous conventions for people from all over the world.
Has festivals and festivals of every kind that grows bigger every year.
And yes, the city has problems. Many problems, but a shite hole it is not. Nobody from La especially can call it a shitty city.

1. I don't like big cities ("I would rather wake up in the middle of nowhere than in any big city on Earth" -- Steve McQueen)
2. NO is not even the worst city w/in a three hour drive (hey Jackson!!)
3. NO is the best food city in the US -- meaning food is a part of the basic culture: grading restaurants, searching out hole-in-the-wall-dives, etc... That's the continental influence. Cities dominated by British isle culture (WASP/Irish Catholic) can't match it.
4. People will always want to live in NO due to its history and atmosphere. BR is going downhill and w/in 20 years will be Jackson w/LSU and some plants. It doesn't make me happy to say that -- when I first went to BR as a kid in the late 70s I thought it was paradise -- but it's simply an unavoidable fact. You can tell time by how far south NBR has creeped. I remember when it wasn't even to Greenwell Springs. Now it's past Florida...

No it’s certainly not completely true! There are shite head predators who target victims in this city. And that also happens in all other cities.
We have millions of visitors here every year. Many such visitors who flock to a central tourist area with the express intention of staying out late and getting drunk. Based on numbers alone, you are going to see more tourists being victimized here than in Mobile, AL, for example.

Hating a city and pointing out the things that are wrong and not having optimism that they’ll be fixed in my lifetime are two completely different things.
I certainly don’t hate New Orleans. It’s a special place. It’s just plagued with issues.
And yes, I love the saints.
