Yes like the ones that have parents that don’t work and never send their kids to school sick

My pediatrician said to expect 10 illnesses per year from school for the little ones.

Did yours get Rhinovirus yet? That shite has been going around Lafayette and sucks (I got it from my kid).

Get ready for you kid to bring you some stingers.
They’ll cripple you.

Depends on the kid. Both of ours were sick a lot when they first started pre-school/daycare. It was pretty bad the first year or so, then pretty much stopped for both of them. If it didn't happen then, it would have happened when they started kindergarten.

Tubes were a godsend.

My son got tubes when he was about 2. Unfortunately, he is one of those people that if there is a possible side effect he is going to experience it (just like his mother). Turns out one of the tubes formed to his ear drum and when it came out so did most of his ear drum. Lost like 80% of hearing in that ear. Hes 8 now and just had his 3rd surgery to help fix his hearing.

All of that said, still wouldnt do it differently and if my newborn daughter needs them she will get them as well.

Your pediatrician hasn’t explained any of this to you?

You should put a mask on her. Kids are little disease vectors.

As others have said, it takes awhile. My youngest appeared to be finally over the hurdle, then the school started accepting new kids from other schools that shutdown, and the summer was a bitch. This year so far has been mild, so hopping we're over the hump.

You know your kid better than anyone. If you start to see mood changes, appetite changes, fever; you need to be concerned. Talk to the pediatrician (if you haven't already) about vitamins and medicine to help with symptoms (cough meds, claritin, Zyrtec...).

It is one of those things where what you are going through is probably nothing, but at the same time you can't be too cautious. Find a good Children's urgent care clinic (especially one that takes appointments), and make sure you can talk to your pediatricians team via e-mails. If you can give them a clear understanding of symptoms, mood/appetite changes, and if the school lets you know what (if anything) is going around at school; most are really good at telling you when you need to come in. In my experience, they are usually maxed out at patients, so if they know the child they can advise OTC symptom treatments and how long to monitor before having to come in.

Yes, of course. They said expect 8-10 colds a year and for the first year to be rough.

It was more a rant than anything. We seem to be on pace for more like double the 8-10 though at this point...

It will get better in the spring. Little kids are disgusting and share all sorts of things.

It's probably worse if you didn't expose your kid to too many other kids before now.

My kids both were in a lot of playgroups at a young age, so they got exposed then as well.

Also... keep an eye on the ear infections. If the kid gets 3-4 in a year, definetly look into tubes. Both of mine had tubes and it was instantly better.

It seems like my oldest was constantly sick the first year he was in day care. Most of it was nothing serious, just always had a runny nose and had a cough every other week. He started when he was a couple months old so he was getting exposed pretty early.

My 2nd seemed to handle it better. Still got sick a lot at first but it didn't last nearly as long, maybe a month or 2. Who knows, maybe the older one was bringing home the germs in small doses slowly exposing him?

I despise this stuff. Both my boys have scars on their stomachs from this. Nothing intense but we fought that stuff for a couple years.

Ask pediatrician about removing tonsils and/or adenoids. Completely transformed my daughter's health.

What sucks too is I hardly ever was sick but as soon as my daughter started daycare I always got sick too. My daughter when she was around 2 got Scarlet Fever from daycare. Of course it took them a few days to figure what was wrong and once they did antibiotics she started feeling better quickly. It was a rough few days for her and scary for me and my wife especially when her fever would spike at night. Starting the process over in January with our little boy.
